Diphenhydramine HCL, the only active ingredient in Benadryl. Literally the only active ingredient in ZzzQuil is the only active ingredient of benadryl. The liquid form of Zzzquil also has small amount of alcohol to amplify the effect of the Diphenhydramine HCL, which is actually something Benadryl states NOT TO DO (drink alcohol with benadryl) because it interacts and amplifies the effects of the benadryl . **Q: What does it taste like** A: This is a capsule. It doesn't taste like anything. **Q: Can I use it to sleep early if I woke up really late?** A: Yes you can. **Q: Could someone please tell me what the difference is between this and Benadryl...other than Benadryl being pink and this being purple?** A: Nothing important. The active ingredient in Zzquil is Diphenhydramine. So is the same in Benadryl.
