Worst of the MCU
Only just bought this on DVD but I really wish i hadnt - sadly, its easily the worst of the MCU films. This film has neither the grit and originality of the first film nor the humour (I loved Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer) and set pieces that charcterised the second. How come the Iron Man armour now falls to pieces so easily in this one? How on earth did Iron Man manage to fight off aliens galore in Avengers in such shoddy kit?! This is a bloated mess. I thought we were probably heading for cliche-territory when Christmas references started to be dropped heavily, but the introduction of that old chestnut The Cute Kid to save Tony Stark at one point almost had me gagging. And I can suspend disbelief with the best of them normally, but Guy Pearce and his bunch of Extremis-engineered humans who can burn and regenerate at the same time take the biscuit. And how come Pearce’s clothes don’t burn off some times but to at others? Of course, Pepper’s bra WAS fireproof, not surprisingly. Straight down the charity shop with this tomorrow where it can join Ed Norton’s The Incredible Hulk.

Great Third Iron Man Film
I thought this was a pretty solid third film the Iron Man series. Once again Tony's past is coming back to bite him in the proverbial to offer up a new enemy set on mass destruction. Stark and the supporting characters are all once again developed well and there are some brilliant action scenes and great effects. It feels like a good end to the Iron Man standalone films if this is the last one and I found it very well paced and entertaining from start to finish. I wasn't the biggest fan of Iron Man so skipped the Iron Man films initially as the MCU unfolded on the big screen, but saw all the other films. I really liked how Downey portrayed him though I still found his character kind of annoying. Finally watching all the Iron Man films whilst doing a full run leading up to Thor 3 recently though really changed my mind about the character and Downey once again does a really good job of bringing the superhero to life.

The good is okay, but the bad is terrible.
I purchased this for the 2D version as it was the only copy I could find on Amazon at the time. The disc comes in a very thin and flimsy case, but the discs seem fine and the 2D movie works great after having navigated through German to English options. As for the movie itself, it has some nice bits. Ben Kingsley is great and funny but the whole character and actor are a wasted chance. Guy Pearce is not bad with an interesting character, but again not fully developed or used appropriately. Downey Jr. is typical, Cheadle is great, but for me the highlight was Paltrow and Favreau. After this little praise I can say nothing but scorn. It is by far the weakest of all MCU movies to date, and I think lets the Iron Man series down. With the progression of Iron Man movies the star of the show, ol' Tin Head, actually does less and less, while Stark is more in the picture. I have a feeling this is to do with celebrity more than story arc. The story promises so much but fails to turn up, let alone not deliver what was expected. It is a jigsaw of good ideas but all from different boxes and the end result is a mess that leaves you with a slight headache as looking at it is more like a stereogram - you stare at it but can only vaguely see what is going on. Weak, diluted, almost pointless. Maybe only worth it for the end credits scene.

Good entertainment with a few story line flaws
I’m not a hugely interested in super hero movies but our youngest is a big fan of the theme. And I must admit the movies are generally good entertainment for the family during our weekly 'movie-nights'. Even my wife, who is mostly into chick flicks has started to develop an interest. So we’ve watched the 3 Iron Man movies with our children, 7 and 9 years old. The first two on blu ray that we still had at hand. This 3rd we bought on Prime. The 3rd Iron Man instalment has more shocking moments than the others. So with the youngest it was slightly scary a couple of times but he slept well after it. His older sister, who likes the reasonably gruesome Lord of the rings and Hobbit movies, somehow struggled more with this movie, the red eyed veterans in particular. She had a nightmare about them the night after we watched it.But as said, it’s good entertainment, with spectacular, good quality visuals. And Tony simply remains a funny character. The digital Prime version was perfect. The first thing I should say however is that we decided to watch the 3 Iron man movies in sequence. This worked well with the first 2 but in this 3rd instalment that are a few references to an event in New York and aliens. So we’ll now have to catch up with this through the Avenger movies I guess. Also, a more cynical note. I know it’s unwise to question potholes and plausibility in a super hero movie. But they alway got my mind racing. This time I still struggle to understand how Killian’s wounded army veterans that received traumatic injuries, and that through a breakthrough scientific experiment could regrow their lost limbs turned into some sort of evil drones. In particularly (spoiler) since Pepper Potts Was exposed to the same treatment and was still sweet as honey. Also while these veterans were able to generate 3000C heat from their body, somehow their clothes didn’t catch fire!. And, if Tony had a personal army of iron man suits at home, why didn’t he order them into action when the attack on his mansion occurred? Then by the end of the movie Tony simply decides to have surgery to remove rocket shrapnels from near his heart.. really?? - the whole second movie was about his progressive terminal condition because of this shrapnel that could not be removed!. Well, all least is gone for the 4th movie.Anyway, maybe you should think too much about such details and just enjoy the movie.
