Christina Cole stars as Cassie Hughes, a young girl enrolled at Medenham Hall, a private school that once housed a coven of witches. Cassie, who struggles to fit in with her elitist and over-sexed classmates, discovers that she's even less like them than she thought when she develops telekinetic powers. The onset of these powers attracts the attention of Azazeal (Michael Fassbinder), leader of the Nephilim (the fallen angels of the Bible). What follows is a broad and frequently stylish soap opera that pits Cassie and her roommate Thelma (Jemima Rooper, who steals many scenes), who happens to be a ghost, against Azazeal as he attempts to control Cassie's body and soul--quite literally. His plan is to impregnate her in order to allow the other Nephilim to invade the corporeal world. Cutting dialogue a la Buffy and a hip soundtrack should hook viewers, as will a smattering of nudity and violence and surprisingly solid special effects. -- Paul Gaita Review: UNDER A SPELL... - Hi there! I'm so happy to have listened to the advice of others buying Hex 1 & 2, because they were absolutely amazing! Besides all, I've also watched "Buffy the vampire slayer" in the prevoius years, but I don't agree with the general feeling of this has to be a masterpiece of television: first of all, because it isn't scary at all for me,the monsters are ridiculous, the story lacks in a lot of passages too and it isn't an original idea, plus where all the suspance was gone?!..It even looked like a Scooby-Doo film in some points.. And ok, as good as could have been the main actress,or handsome the male actor of Angel, the spin off too, isn't at the top of my favourite list (for example, in the past, there was "American Gothic" that in my opinion was better, at least more scary)...However this english show instead is "da bomb"! And it is even better for the fairy and scary environment, for the thrilling original plot, for the hot never gross sex (thre's even a nice subplot about homosexual love: that is a good way to spread tolerance too, I think),but far away different from the usual american style we are all used to; and last but not least, for the good looking and perfect cast (wow that gorgeous blue-eyes fallen angel...I'm still dreaming of him! ;-P) So, don't think twice, it isn't even true that it lacks in pace, you will be totally instant "HEXed",in this modern horror fairy tale...so just go for it and enjoy yourself!;-P) Bye bye xoxo Review: Brilliant British noughties Witch series - I absolutely love Hex. To this day I think it is one of the best British Witchy shows around. I was so thrilled when I found the episodes on desertcart. Season one is brilliant, I love the friendship/lesbian tension with Thelma and Cassie, their bond is amazing. They have great chemistry. Michael fassbender is great as Azazeal. The show has a great setting, and I particularly loved the spooky outdoor shots. This show is very much of it's time. It basically came out of the Buffy and Charmed era but it is completely unique show. It's very much a teen horror/witch show. There are some differences to the original airing with the streaming version. The original theme song has been replaced, as have many of the songs and it has a new end theme but I like most of the song choices they've used. I would love to see this show brought back in some form one day.

HEX and the US
Anyone basing their opinion on the show from the episodes aired on BBCAmerica should either rent the show or buy it. I've been a huge fan of this show since it first started airing overseas and was really excited to hear it finally coming stateside. However while watching the US episodes they are very poorly chopped up and a lot of music is changed. Some thing are even out of order. Even as a diehard fan I could barely watch the edited ones. Also for those hoping for a series 3, last I'd heard there will nto be one. The video quality on the DVDs is actually really good and the speciel features are plentiful and entertaining.

A 'Hex' of a watch?
Have to say that I found this to be better than I expected. Not a brilliant show, but don't think it's a bad as what people make out. The story centres on Cassie Hughes, played by Christina Cole, a shy college girl who finds a strange vase which leads to strange things happening, including her best friend Thelma, played by Jemima Rooper, being sacrificed to Azazeal, played by Michael Fassbender, who's the show's main antagonist. Cassie and Thelma (now roaming around as a ghost) are left alone to fight off Azazeal and prevent evil from coming into our world. Well, that's the idea that they try to get across, but most of the time it's about Cassie trying to stop herself from jumping into bed with Azazeal. Which she fails at. As a protagonist, Cassie is not the most interesting character. She's a beautiful young girl, and isn't totally convincing as a shy, average 'Jane Eyre' type. On the other hand, Thelma brings comic relief to the show, with Rooper often outshining Hughes, coming across as a very likable character who does her best to keep Cassie away from Azazeal. Which she also fails at. Fassbender does a good job as the villainous and smoldering Azazeal, though doesn't do much other than seducing Cassie in order to impregnate her with his demon-child. Yes, there is a reason why he's after Cassie! He wants her to have his child, who will bring the destruction of mankind. Will Cassie get pregnant or will she be able to stop the end of the world, eliminating Azazeal's plans? This is where the series ends, setting up an intriguing cliff hanger for the second series. Behind the camera, the crew do a good job, with witty one-liners, making you like the minor characters who seem more interesting than the main protagonist herself. All in all, not great but watchable. If you are willing to forgive the show's flaws then 'Hex' is a fun and enjoyable series, a cult show with likable characters and good dialogue. More a guilty pleasure, definitely not the British 'Buffy'.

the only problem is...
the first season of hex is an absloute must-see for fans of good english tv with a supernatural theme. the characters are easily-relatable and realistic, despite their supernatural characteristics (we're talking ghosts, fallen angels, telekinetic powers etc here). the only problem with the season is that it is just too short! you won't want it to end for the simple reason that nothing you watch afterwards will be able to top this amazing programme. with just 6 episodes, you havent got much viewing time but the series is very watchable even the second and third times over. the only advantage to its short length is that you can easily watch it all at once! the making of any great programme is its actors, and on this note, the makers havent put a single foot wrong. every actor suits their character perfectly and as such can play them to the highest possible standards. there really arent any faults with this!

This is a fantastic supernatural series! The back cover quotes this series as "beautiful, dark, and intelligent". I couldn't have said it better myself. Many people are comparing it to Buffy, but it really is so much more. The characters are rich and layered. The writing is believable. The casting director was spot on in his choice of actors for the roles. Azazeal is sexy and endearing, but you always know he's evil through and through, while Cassy is sweet and sassy, with a strength of character that any good heroine must have. Thelma is a treasure to get to know and love. The fact that she's a lesbian and madly longing for romance with her best friend Cassy is secondary to how much she actually proves the depth of true love as the series grows. I must say that I hate the way the first season ends- with so much left up in the air and dangling. Thank God they made a second season. It seems they canceled the series at the end of season 2. Too bad that we have fallen in love with these characters only to have to say goodbye to them. It seems the pattern of most great shows on television these days. I still can't get past the cancelations of Carnivale and Rome!

Very unique and really eye-catching series. Brillant actors, especially (still very young) Michael Fassbender and absolutely stunning Jemima Rooper (did not know her at all before). Top, top, top. Too bad the series ended after season 2.
