I'm so glad i found rapidura not only does it taste great ...
I have for a while been switching [ or at least trying to switch] away from highly processed food stuffs.Until recently when i went in search of an alternative sweetener for baking i didn't know this was available at all so decided to give it a try.I'm so glad i found rapadura not only does it taste great but it is far more natural and still contains all of its natural nutrients .The taste is a little different ,but for me at least i prefer it.

Brilliant natural product!
I do alot of baking for the family and at least I know I'm using the most natural sugar I can rather than refined white sugar. It has an earthy caramel flavouring and so you don't seem to need to use as much as you would with normal sugar either. Brilliant natural product and you get 3 for a very good price.

Different
If like me you are a sugar addict, this sugar will be a bit of a shock. It doesn't have that over the top sweetness that white or even brown sugar does. When added to drinks, it lifts the flavor as a pose to cover it. I like it and won't be going back but it is definitely different but in a good way.

Bad effects
This is absolutely delicious, with a wonderful, rich and intense flavour. BUT I’ve discovered (and confirmed through a rigorous process of elimination) that it has very bad effects on my digestive system - effects that ordinary refined sugar does not have. So I’m just posting this review in case others have a similar reaction, so you know that it might be this sugar.

Sugar with a difference.
It's good to eat a 'raw' version of sugar that is not so refined. There is a 'caramel' flavour which is quite strong, much like drinking pure cane sugar juice - so you have to like that as it's quite pervasive. You do get used to it after a while, but some may not. At least, a fairly 'healthy' alternative to refined white sugar.

This product is advertised as gluten free. It is not. The box explicitly says, in bold, that it is "not suitable for peanut, nut, milk, sesame, soya or gluten allergy sufferers due to the manufacturing methods".

Not as good as usual
I've been buying this particular brand of Rapadura sugar via Amazon for years & for the first time it sadly was not anything like previous purchases,it arrived well packaged but the contents were not at all the same, considerably paler, & the sugar was a solid but dry hard lump,& strangely finer . It was far more like ordinary light brown muscovado, even the flavour was not like usual. Rather disappointing. Is there a reason? Who knows? Is it not what is states it is? Who knows? Biona have always been a very reliable company, & I have purchased many various organic ingredients from them, maybe I will have to have a re-think.
