Chip Size is 1/4” or less
I needed small particles to blend into rocky bonsai potting mix to bind the mix and retain some moisture while retaining good drainage. Chips are 1/4” or less. Perfect for my needs.

Excellent multi-use media
A great multi-use medium for any number of applications across gardens and/or pet care.I add this to some of my plants that love organic matter, but not too much all at once. Anything woody takes a little longer to breakdown, and will leech nitrogen out of soil, so it's also good for plants that don't like a lot of nitrogen. For a lot of my plants that prefer well-drained soils (most herbs, alpine plants, a good deal of semi-tropical-tropical houseplants, desert plants, orchids, etc) I make my own substrate by blending ratios of these bark fines with LECA, pumice/lave rock, perlite, vermiculite, and top soil, maybe a little bit of sand, but not a lot. I can get a closer-to-preferred substrate that way, rather than just using a pre-made mix and rolling the dice and gambling if it will keep the plant happy or not.I like the bark fines, again, because they add organic matter to my handmade substrates, and organic matter is a great resource for substrates, especially those that don't have the benefit of being outside ACTUALLY connected to the earth. Container substrates lack a good environment for developing strong beneficial microflora/fauna communities because they are closed systems and the water we use strips out everything over time and we have to refeed/remineralize every so often. Organic matter helps slow that process and provides places for microflora/fauna to colonize, provides a slower organic feed (wood will provide carbon and create bigger aggregates to help soil retain more moisture and nutrients), but you do have to mind how much nitrogen the breakdown process is using, so watch your plants planted with this for nitrogen deficiency. This can also be great bedding for certain pets: reptilians and amphibians, maybe some other pets, but bark fines are much nicer than fake substrates, way better than sand (sand can be accidentally consumed and cause impactions), and when combined with feces, may actually breakdown and help create a whole ecosystem in your pet's enclosure. I would still recommend cleaning an enclosure as regularly as you can, but try to make a natural environment and see how your pet thrives!A good multi-use media for quite a few applications across a few genres of use.

Good quality, mixes well
I mixed this in with my all purpose potting soil when repotting my succulent. Fines were lightweight so dampen ahead of time or pot in area with still air. It did a nice job of lightening up the soil and also holding moisture. Not much was needed. This bag will last a while!

Add it to houseplants to hold in moisture
This US-made bag of bark chips is a good way to water houseplants less often as the bark will help the soil retain moisture. Over-watering is one of the main reasons that houseplants don't thrive. This one pound bag of bark chips is sufficient for placing on top of the soil for six of my smaller plants and two of my larger ones.Be sure to pay attention to the instructions and cautions on the bag: the bag has lots of bark dust and you want to avoid breathing it or accidentally ingesting the dust. Using gloves is recommended and I would also suggest using a mask like the surgical ones you may have in your house already. Put those on before opening the bag and while spreading the bark chips carefully.I recommend these bark chips as part of your houseplant care and maintenance.

Perfect size
Perfect size for top dressing and soil amendment. Whether using with orchids, bonsai or houseplants this bark fits the bill for all. Size if fairly consistent with some longer pieces as well. I've used many brands of bark over the years and this seems on par with competitors. My only complaint is the unnecessary bible quote on the bag, really wish people would keep religious crap off product packaging.

Perfect for my orchid mix!
This pine bark mix is perfect for my orchid mix. They have a good size to them and are fresh and odor free. They allow my orchid roots to breathe. You can use it with other types of plants as well, I just got this bag solely for my orchids.
