Elysian Dream

Well, I'm biased of course, but if you love an adventure story, with lots of twists and turns, characters you can really get behind and exciting creatures from mythology - with a difference - then you'll love this tale. Benji, a ditsy, laid-back student has his world turned upside-down when he finds out his girlfriend, Kim, is not all she seems. Pursued from Edinburgh into the magical world of Elysia, Benji ends up on the wrong side of some dangerous enemies. Kim fights to keep him safe.

I am not always a fan of immersive fantasy, unless it is cleaver, fast moving and very well written. This book scores highly on all counts. It is a well crafted tale that brings together characters from the modern day with characters from the mythical realm of Elysia. The book has energy, pace, and plenty of twists - a real page turner. If you like immersive fantasy you will love it, and if like me you are not always sure, this one is a recommended read.

Elysian Dream is a wonderful written modern fantasy story that beautifully blends together the familiar and the fantastic (especially for an Edinburgh local). Action, intrigue and legend pull the reader in and keep you walking the line between realms of humans and fae folk.Benji's world is turned inside out by the revelation that he doesn't know his girlfriend or himself as well as he might like. He is pulled into a conflict he didn't know could exist and has to make a choice he doesn't really understand to save not just one, but possibly all races across the realms.An incredible read for anyone who loves fantasy, with an amazing Scottish setting. Keeps you reading, keeps you guessing, keeps you hooked.

Entertaining, fast-paced and imaginative. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy novel. The format of short chapters fuelled the need to keep reading, and the twists and turns of the characters added to the story. Hoping the sequel will soon follow.

This book cleverly intertwines characters from modern day with characters from a mythical world with a storyline that keeps you turning page after page. Hope it's not too long before Sarah writes a second book or even a sequel to this one.

I enjoyed this fantasy adventure, the story keeps up a good pace with plenty of twists. I am looking forward to a possible sequel.

If you are a fan of immersive fantasy ‘Elysian Dream’ is a must for you. Its the story of a student“Benji” who feels that his life is not quite right, then an overheard conversation catapults him into a revelatory odyssey across a strange land where he meets a carnival of mythical characters. In the company of new friends and apparently old enemies he battles for survival while desperately trying to understand his place in a conflict between the light and darkness. This is a fast moving novel that rushes the reader from one surprise to another, new encounters come thick and fast as Benji comes to realise what is at stake.While this novel is aimed at a teenage audience its pacy narrative will grip and enthral any adult who takes the plunge. ‘Elysian’ Dream is highly recommended and if the rumours of a sequel are true it will be eagerly anticipated.

Sarah Burchett-Cook really knows how to create a fanciful world. It's clear that she knows her characters well. Personalities were well-defined and stayed in character throughout, which was amazing considering the number of other-worldly fantasy elements in play. The plot moved along quickly with a series of crisis points that built upon each other while the main character, Benjii, had a lot to learn and unlearn. An enjoyable read, it certainly took me out of my world and gave me an exciting and rather fascinating new one to live in, bringing a mythological fantasy universe to life.
