Stuart Crystal England's Finest Crystal Stuart Crystal is one of the best known quality crystal brands in English glass making. It was originally based in Stourbridge in the west midlands, the heartland of England's crystal making industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. The area was home to a number of master glassmakers who came from the Lorraine region of France, attracted by the local supplied of coal and clay. The industry flourished in the 19th century, with Stuart Crystal operating alongside other famous names such as Royal Brierly, Royal Doulton and the Webb and Corbett works. The Stuart Crystal works were based around the Red House Glass Cone, which is now a thriving visitor centre offering tours and information on the art of glass making and glass blowing. There is also a large Stuart Crystal factory shop at this site. Manufacturing is no longer carried out at this site, though the tradition is continued in part by several former Stuart glassmakers who formed the brand Crystal With A Twist in 2002. Now based at the Ruskin Glass Centre, the Crystal With A Twist company now supplies quality lead crystal Airtwist glass to Waterford Crystal where the glass is sold under the Stuart Crystal brand. The Stuart Crystal brand is now owned by Waterford Wedgwood, probably the world's leading fine quality crystal company. This luxury brands company operates a Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre.
