CW1355 50L Semi-Round Kitchen Pedal Bin with Lid Lock, Silent Soft Close Lid, Strong Steel Pedal, Stay-Open Lid, Large Capacity, Black Plastic

We had to buy a new bin earlier this year and, seduced by gadgetry, we bought one that has a lid that automatically opens when you place your hand near it. What a mistake that was! Anyway, after this broke having had it for just two months, we were in the market again for a new bin, and decided on the simplehuman 50 litre bin, wanting something that was quite large, and would last a long time. My wife's initial response was "how much have you spent on the bin?!?" when she found out how much it cost, but she's now changed her tune entirely. The bin itself is made of very sturdy plastic, and has a very wide top, which makes it ideal as it lessens the chances of getting dirt and detritus down the sides of the bin (yes, you wouldn't think it's hard to accurately put stuff into a bin, but my teenage children seem to find it very challenging). The lid itself is opearated by a foot pedal which also seems sturdy; under the foot pedal is a little metal fold-out stand that helps to support the bin and keep it upright. When you take your foot off the pedal when the bin is open, the lid then closes very slowly, which is a very nice touch - it means you can just press the pedal so the bin is open, then take your foot off and still have time to eg scrape food waste in, without having to worry about the lid closing too quickly. I've seen some reviews moan about the fact that the bin stands some way away from a wall so moves backwards when the lid opens; well, I don't see how this can happen; there's another metal fold-out piece just behind the bin that rests against the wall, and stops this happening. What's also good is that because the bin is wide, it's easy to get binliners out without any problems. They simply unhook from around the sides, then lift out very easily indeed, unlike our previous two bins. The bin comes with a sample pack of SimpleHuman 'P' size binbags, which are meant to be tailored for Simplehuman bins of this size. These fit perfectly, and we've been so impressed with these binbags (a LOT stronger than normal black bin-liners) that we've since bought a couple of boxes of 50 of these binbags, so we have a good stock. Not having a dog, we haven't used the lid-lock function (if you press the handle in, the bin locks), but it did provide five minutes entertainment when we locked it and then watched our teenage daughter trying to work out how to open it. Sometimes I worry about the future of the human race... I have to say that this bin isn't the cheapest (although it's a LOT cheaper than a more well-known brand I also considered), but it really couldn't be any better. I never thought I'd be sitting here enthusing over a bin, but here I am! My only moan (and this is a very small moan indeed) is that the bin is shipped with the lid not attached; you'll need to be fairly strong to fit it, as you have to press it in so hard that you're a bit worried the hinge catches will break. However in hindsight this is also a good thing, as it means that there's no danger of it ever coming off. This is a superb bin, and I can't recommend it enough.

Perfect Good size Quality as usual with simple human Great price

I am giving this bin 4 stars as I found the lid impossible to connect. I was trying for about 30 mins and contemplated throwing it across the room. I was sooo frustrated. It's a bin ... how can it be so hard to put the thing together!!! Anyhoo - Dad to the rescue who managed to do it, but it took him some doing too!!! Once put together though - its a great bin with soft closing lid. It looks great in my kitchen.

Although took a while to arrive it was worth the wait. Very nice size bin. Looks lovely in my kitchen. Like the shape. Easy to change the bags. Seems like good quality & sturdiness. Can’t smell anything unless lid is open if there is anything in there that smells. Last three bins I’ve had have been the sensor bins and batteries always need charging which can be pricey and something always goes wrong. Decided to go back to this pedal bin and really happy I did. A***** 5*****

Had this for a while now and it is doing great. The lock is simple and has stopped the dog lifting the lid (BIG dog). The bin is light and has been stable and robust. The bin liners we get fit perfectly. We tend to lift the lid rather than using the peddle as we always use the lock.

Cracking bin. Unobtrusive and I love the soft close lid. Much better than the much more expensive one it replaced!!

Such a fab idea as i have a labrador who is a habitual Bin raider . This will save time , energy and the air turning blue ! So happy ! 😁

Absolute load of rubbish for the rubbish! Lid broke within 4 months of purchase & due to this foot step no longer works either…. dog is having a field day!

Es perfecto. Resistente, elegante y práctico. La tapa baja sola lentamente. Tiene un cierre de seguridad que viene muy bien cuando tienes hijos.

ET surtout moins cher que d'autres homolgues pour un cahier des charges parfaitement respecté. Je ne sais pas à combien se vendent les sacs simple human, mais ce format me permet de trouver des sacs standards dans le commerce convenant parfaitement, à la différence de brabantia par exemple. Sa forme me permet de la loger dans un coin à côté du plan de travail sans manger trop d'espace. Entièrement plastique, ce dernier est de bonne facture, rigide et facile à laver, les odeurs partent. Ayant trois chats à la maison, le clapet de sécurité est appréciable au grand dam de mes 3 canailles. La fermeture lente est un plus également, la pédale a l'air résistante, seul le temps validera ou non cette impression. Dans l'ensemble c'est pour moi un poubelle haut de gamme en termes de fonctionnalité et praticité. Sobre, elle n'est pas très "design" comme d'autres. Reste à savoir si vous voulez une "poubelle d'apparat" avec souvent la contrainte de devoir utiliser les sacs onéreux de la marque et que vous êtes prêts à débourser la différence à l'achat et à l'usage

Looks good, but the design of the lid is such that sells get out. Also the lid and the inside bottom of the container have too many ridges and nooks so cleaning will not be quick. So I feel that simplehuman mission statement is just marketing not an actual design approach.
