Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories

For anyone who may be familiar with Ito’s previous work, you will not be surprised to hear that this is yet another amazingly horrific stories. The mundane panels make it seem cam and safe, until one quick page flip reveals a terrifyingly detailed work of art. As with any of Ito’s work, this is a must read for any horror and/or manga fans!

The book arrived in perfect condition and earlier than expected. As for the book itself , this is my first manga and i totally recommend getting it. The stories are really interesting.

I was gripped by the stories in this collection. Junji Ito really is a master of his craft. For anyone who enjoys horror manga this is a must have. The artwork is fantastic and the horror really is unique and unlike anything else I've ever read before. 5 stars but would award more if I could.

Excellent book however 1 of the stories 'the painter' within it are also in another Junji Ito book -Tomie. This was a bit disappointing as it meant that I'd already read one of the 9 stories. They are very good though and the art work is amazing

Slightly disappointed that one of the stories (Painter) is from Tomie, but I suppose this is partly for people who haven't got that far yet, and the differences between the outline and the finished story make it interesting, for many of the other stories too. This actually has ten stories, but seeing as the last one, Fashion Model: Cursed Frame's only 7 pages (and doesn't really add anything to Fashion Model - there's barely any time for the setup before the ending), I can see why it's only advertised as nine. My favourite story was Shiver, the art towards the end was really effective, reminded me (being intentionally vague here) of an iconic image from Uzumaki. I also liked Fashion Model (the jump cuts are great for giving it a sense of inevitability), Marionette Mansion and Honored Ancestors. The Long Dream feels a bit too familiar, the dreams are played more for laughs than really showing the horror aspect of them. Being told a character was looking for a restroom for eight years is always going to be funny to me, you either need to show what it's like (because the image I have is definitely funny) or find something else. Of course, the humour may be what he intended, and not every story has to be straight horror, but I still think it was a great premise that could've lead to a better story. Hanging Blimp reminded me of the later parts of Gyo, and not in a good way - where the monsters are just slightly too silly to be scary. Maybe it works, it's hard to say - a lot of his stuff sounds ridiculous, and even is ridiculous, but can also be terrifying. Maybe if I re-read some of it, or had been in a different mood, it would've worked for me. I'm in two minds about a lot of Tomie, as to whether I'd prefer it if it followed one story, or if I can just enjoy the (largely) separate stories. I wouldn't say no to more collections like this, having read everything from the new Viz media editions.

Junji Ito was my gateway to Manga, checked out his stuff as I'd heard it was very twisted and strange, and wow I was not disappointed. Some of these stories really stuck with me long after finishing the book. I've read a few more of his books since and really enjoyed them.

Junji Ito always makes good stories and these ones scared me to death and grease made me throw up partially due to my phobia of grease but it was disgusting and made me feel awful for the rest of the day would highly recommend.

Amazing book, no printing issues, my favourite stories are Hanging Blimp and the Long Dream! Buy if you like manga, horror art or just Junji Ito in general.

This is my favorite Junji Ito read right next to Tomie. This book is basically the shows best stories put into Manga form if you’ve ever seen it. Even watching the show before has read the book, knowing the stories, I still really enjoyed this!!
