Elmer and the Dragon: 2 (My Father's Dragon Trilogy (Paperback))

We really loved reading these three books, they took us all to far away lands and imaginations grew. We have re-read several times and still loving them. Would highly recommend to anyone with young children.

Freeing the dragon in the first book (My Father's Dragon) was only half the journey. Elmer now needs to get back home. The dragon is so thankful he offers the boy a ride. But when a storm blows them off course, they find themselves on an island with canaries that are dieing of curiosity. Can they help the birds and still get Elmer home in time for his father's birthday? This book is a fun sequel to the original. It doesn't quite hold up to the nonsensical fun of the first one but is still a great read. Early readers will enjoy being able to get through the short chapters themselves and should enjoy the plot and characters. This series is the perfect series to use to introduce kids to reading. They'll be able to handle the story and characters well and enjoy the journey to another world. Pick them up today and start them on the road to exploring other worlds through books.

An item arrived promptly and in good shape but the WRONG item. I ordered a trilogy--ie 3 books-- but have received only 1 book, Elmer and the dragon. Can you please sort this out!! I would like the three book set i ordered. A very irritated customer.

the pictures are invisible. very poor quality

We bought the whole series (My Father's Dragon, Elmer and the Dragon, The Dragons of Blueland) for our 3 year old son. He LOVES these books. We have read them at least five times each since buying them a couple weeks ago. A chapter is a great length for a quick bedtime story, although we usually end up reading two or three chapters. There are some pages without any pictures, but no more than one spread in a row is without a picture, which helps keep his interest. Additionally, the pictures are well-placed so that if anything happens that kids might find scary (like Elmer meeting hungry tigers in My Father's Dragon) there is a picture that shows that everything is okay on that same page. My son hates conflict in books, or for things to be too scary, so I feel like these books strike a great balance. Nobody (Elmer, the Dragon, any animals they meet) gets injured or eaten, they just get bested with clever solutions. In these books, Elmer is kind, helpful, and resourceful. I am happy to read these books over and over to my son because the story is good and Elmer is a good role model. I would recommend this series highly as a first chapter book series to read aloud to any child.
