Id previously been advised never to use straw for chickens bedding as it can contain mounds, which ultimately kill them, but the alternative is saw dust, which is hard to compost. This bedding is treated to elimate the mould (it does pong of detol, although its not detox) and should compost more easily. Its very expensive, but I have it on top of sawdust so far, and the Chickens like it, and it doesnt seem to get so wet. Ive recommended it to my brother for his hens. The bale is large, so should last a while, and the chickens dont make too much a mess of it.
