Thank you for your question and so sorry for the late reply. Phillip Adam Fragrance Free shampoo and conditioner leave the hair with the perfect pH balance which is 6.7.

I’m pretty sensitive to chemical smells.  This shampoo has little to no scent.  I wondered when I first bought it whether it would smell like cider vinegar, but it doesn’t smell like that either.

Initially this absolutely gave fantastic volume, no heaviness or oilness whatsoever and I thought it just the perfect shampoo (was using the apple) but I noticed on my second bottle my hair / strands starting to feel heavier and stiffer, flatter, but not in any oily way and I wondered if my hair just wasn't getting clean enough, or did it need more moisture? why it felt so dry flat and lifeless so soon after the wash, when at first it seemed to do such the opposite ~ I noticed this contained Pea Protein, and what I had was a classic protein overload.  I have uncolored/ untreated hair, fine hair but a lot of it, and while it seemed to be great at first, it appeared I tipped it over the edge and too much protein can change a lightweight finer hair texture, to something denser and less flexible, stiff hair strands that seem to start to flatten down to soon and stopped feeling soft, light and conditioned ~ instead more brittle and wirey, prone to breakage and hairfall.  If you have hair that is a bit too elastic and stretchy from chemical color lift, protein can definitely serve to oomph up and thicken the strand, but too much protein and you can feel like moisture is unable to penetrate, and your hair feels like it has less flexibility lift and movement so you just have to be mindful how your hair is feeling and be willing to change it up if you feel like it's not feeling right/ your ideal .  First bottle of this though, I really put it up there in the holy grail shampoo category of what I like, weightless cleaning, light volumized hair without silicones, and hair/scalp that stayed clean and un-oily for days. :)
