No this trap will no work on chipmunks. They are not heavy enough to trip the cage. They will run in and out.

Q: would this be strong and big enough for a woodchuck?

The trap is certainly strong enough but woodchuck can get up to 32"s plus a 8-10" tail. So it may be too small.
