Looney Tunes Super Stars: Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote - Supergenius Hijinks

I'm pretty awesome DVD for five bucks really the first three episodes are amazing it's like they're in Blu-ray high def I wasn't expecting that I was just wanting regular cartoons you know but that was a nice surprise with the the first three episodes being like super high def pretty amazing and yes it is 90 minutes DVD I highly recommend this DVD if you love the roadrunner and Wile E coyote

This was a gift for someone for Christmas who enjoys all the old cartoon shows we watched when we were kids. He loved it.

My grandson loves Looney tunes animation. Would watch it for hours if we’d let him.

Good graphics but seemed bit simplified compared to originals - maybe just me. They were funny and good to see my favorite cartoons again - these many many many years later. Wyly E Coyote is my folk hero - over John Wayne and all those other big well-fed dudes. He never gives up ...

OK, so I read a lot of your reviews before purchasing this DVD, and I've since figured it all out! So please allow me to do my best to make it easier for anyone else interested in this Road Runner set... (1) First of all, the menu is downright confusing and, well, pretty terrible. After the obligatory ads for other WB offerings, you're asked whether you would like to watch the cartoons in widescreen or fullscreen. Great, right? Well, hold on a second. The first five (or was it six?) shorts were produced in widescreen. The other nine or ten shorts were produced in fullscreen. This means if you select widescreen, the latter cartoons will have their tops and bottoms cut off. (Not cool.) However, if you choose fullscreen, the initial few cartoons will lose their widescreen goodness. (Think pan-and-scan.) Now, it might not be so bad if you could just go back into the menu and shift between fullscreen and widescreen. Except... You can't do that. Well, unless you actually eject the DVD and start all over. What a royal pain! Also? If you select "Episodes" on the menu screen, you will see that only five cartoons are listed. Don't fret. The other ten are indeed included. You simply cannot select any of those without going through the whole batch. Yeah, by selecting "Play" on the menu screen. Again, a huge pain! (2) The mix of episodes is certainly ... interesting. The first five or six shorts were shown in front of kids movies from the mid-90s through the early 2000s (such as Richie Rich and Legend of the Guardians). So these cartoons are ultra-crisp and a few of them are actually all CGI. The final nine or ten shorts were made in the mid-60s when the Looney Tunes cartoons were winding down. These cartoons were directed by Rudy Larriva, a guy who used to work with Chuck Jones before Larriva left for Disney. Apparently, the two men had a falling out over Larriva's departure, which makes it kinda weird that Larriva ended up taking over some of Jones' more precious creations after the Disney detour. Anyway, the quality of these final ten shorts is ... hmmm, not up to par with the early Jones shorts, but right about in line with, say, those 60s Pink Panther cartoons. They're good. They're just not great. Interestingly enough, one of the really cool shorts at the beginning of the DVD was indeed directed by Chuck Jones - "Chariots of Fur," which was produced in 1994.

Anyone who gives this a poor review didn't do any research before buying the collection. If you want episodes from the 50's, I would hope that you would look up what episodes are from that era considering how Looney Tunes has been around for over 80 years. I actually did the research and have mostly all Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons except for 14 of these more recent episodes. For me - while they might not be the best episodes to star these characters - they are exactly what I'm looking for. Further, I have and was very much surprised by Whizzard of Ow - which is a recent episode. In my opinion it was nice to see a more modern cartoon that still captured the essence of the classics, and I'm hoping there are a few others like that on this collection. As to what seems to be the top negative review (not to be deliberately argumentative), the reviewer mentions that this collection should include pre-1964 episodes not included on the Golden Collection. There are very few that weren't already included. Most of the listed "Roadrunner and Coyote" Looney Tunes left in that description aren't pure Roadrunner cartoons but mashup/special cartoons with many characters. Also, the reviewer mentioned a lack of wolf/sheepdog and bugs/coyote cartoons in the Golden Collection. They're there. I've watched them. I can't speak of an exact sheepdog episode off the top of my head, but a bugs/coyote one is "Operation: Rabbit" in Golden Collection 4, Disk 1. The reason I mention all of that is because I think WB did a fine job by releasing a very specific era of Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons that weren't easily obtainable before.

I bought it for my grandson, aged 6 next month. He was in raptures, just as my sons were when they were kids. We never had such things when I was a kid, so I can enjoy it with my grandson, just as I did with my sons.

Ein Muß für jeden Fan. Die meisten Cartoons (12 von 15) kannte ich noch nicht. Sie sind zum Teil in einem neuen Trickverfahren hergestellt (plastischer), unter Beibehaltung der original Characktere und des original Konzepts von Chuck Jones. Dementsprechend wird die Physik kräftig verbogen (retardierte Gravitation, changierende Realität, Zeitparadoxa, etc. ..). Einfach göttlich ist die Episode mit Baby-Roadrunner und Baby-Coyote - sowohl von der Darstellung wie von der Story her! Meines Wissens sind diese neuen Cartoons hier in Europa noch nie erschienen, da wartet man gerne zwei/drei Wochen auf den Import aus USA. Für mich (bin Road Runner / Coyote-Fan seit den 70ern) hat es sich voll gelohnt.
