It is not hard plastic, very pliable and seems like silicone to me.

Nice leakproof bottle for kids

I purchased this bottle for my youngest son to take to school. He wanted one that keeps his water cold. He has not complained that it doesn't. The flip lid is great. The only thing I am not a fan of is the strap attached to lid. I was able to vinyl his name on sides. So far the permanent vinyl has stayed on.
