Meh
I brought this dvd to add to my collection and I’m glad I brought it, but the movie itself isn’t great, the movie is based on the USA version of the show, so all it does is confuse people outside of the USA because shining time wasn’t apart of the uk version, but the biggest problem with this movie is the fact that Thomas and his friends don’t really Have much involvement in the film. I can’t say I hate this movie because it’s not that bad, some of the scenes are good, like the Chase at the end. But overall it’s just an “ok” movie. 3.5 out of 5

Childhood memories
I first saw this film when it was released in 2000, as the first film I saw in the cinema with my Dad. I remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I was 6 years old and a big fan of Thomas the Tank Engine - my family and I are railway enthusiasts so it ran in the blood.Well, 13 years later I was rediscovering my childhood when I stumbled across the trailer on YouTube and it all came flooding back! With joyful tears in my eyes and the sudden (and strange) recollection of the words, scenes and characters as if I had never forgotten them after 13 years, I bought it. For £3.60 I thought FANTASTIC!!!!!It arrived within days of purchase and as soon as it arrived, I was curled up on the sofa reliving my first film with a mug of tea and biscuits. If it can make me smile as both a 6 year old and a 19 year old, it can for anyone. That's why I recommend this for any family, with a child who loves Thomas. You won't be disappointed - after 13 years, I certainly wasn't!!

Childhood nostalgia!
I first saw this film in my early, early childhood and I loved it. I'm 20 now, and just watched it for the first time in well over a decade.(Spoiler alert)What can I say. All those memories just came flooding right back. The music, faces, Diesel!I'll be honest, there's some shocking acting and the plot is hard to follow as an adult; but as a child that's all irrelevant. I seemed to remember the chase at the end being much longer and exciting, but the magical vibe that I originally felt with this film is still there!Great for kids, not for adults, but I think we all know who this was aimed at!I feel old :)

My son absolutely loves this movie
I agree with a lot of the other reviews in that this is really a dreadful movie and full of bad acting. In fact it is sooo bad that it should attract cult status soon. However, my 4 year old son first saw this when he was around 2. He loves it. It doesn't matter to him that the acting is poor, the story is very confusing and Peter Fonder should be on anti depressants. He just loves it and it makes him happy, which makes me happy. I just had to purchase a second copy at a very reasonable £[] as we have left the original copy at relatives. Needless to say, this movie is for kids, and anyone who really is concerned about how adults will find this, really needs to ask themeselves why???? So at such a low cost I think it is well worth buying for your kids if they like Thomas, it obviously has some magic in it that has ensured my son has seen it literally hundreds of times.

Wonderful
My two year old is a live wire. He runs around, knocks things over, causes chaos (as two year olds do) until I put this on.From the opening sequence til end of the credits he will sit transfixed, totally absorbed in the film.I admit, he didn't like it the first time he saw it - I don't think he could cope with "real people" being with Thomas, however after taking him out to the Days out With Thomas where he saw the "real" Thomas, that was it - he has been watching it constantly since.I've already worn out 3 VHS tapes of this movie and have now sucummbed to the DVD.To all the parents who say they don't like it, I don't believe you. Like me you will have watched it when the kids have gone to bed, cheered Thomas, willed Diesel 10 to fall at the end of the chase sequence and hoped the kids don't wake up before you finish watching it.After all, the magic in all of us is there....isn't it?

Uplifting Magical Thomas Film
Thomas and the Magic Railroad is a very underrated film. The sets and visual aspects of the film are overlooked by the cast; who I feel weren't too bad. I agree with the fact that Thomas should have appeared more yet every scene with him in simply defines the artistry of Britt Allcroft. What critics and audiences haven't considered are the major issues regarding a key character within the director's cut. A villain who would have made up for the plot holes and odd acting from Peter Fonda. Never the less, despite Allcroft's orders to cut the character out of the film, it is enchanting and visually beautiful. I've loved the film ever since I was a child and still do. If it satisfies me as a Thomas fan- it will certainly satisfy anyone else! This US version comes with a deleted scene for those interested in the content as well as fact files about cast and crew involved in the making of the film.
