Pelican 1535 Air Case No Foam (Black)

This pelican case is very rugged. It’s built to last. It can be used for a wide variety of things from travel clothing to electronics. With foam inserts it is perfect for sensitive electronics. It is waterproof. With 2 latches that release when pushed in it is very easy to use. Perfect for travel with wheels and a collapsible handle. It does not have pockets, but foam inserts can be added to accommodate items with a custom fit.

I’ve found the Pelican 1535Air TP case to be EXACTY what I was looking for. When it arrived, I spent approximately 40 minutes laying out three various designs on paper, until I had one that ensured I had maximized the cases space for my camera and peripherals that ABSOLUTELY NEED to travel with me. However, after becoming a bit despondent over the fact that I would not have quite enough space for my eighth lens, I postulated that I could live without that Rokinon 14mm f/1.8 in lieu of the HD PENTAX-D FA f/2.8 15-30mm ED SDM WR. If the 15-30mm f/2.8 is being substituted for the 14mm f/1.8 when used for astrophotography, I’ll simply need a longer exposure which won’t pose any issues with the Pentax K-1 in Astro-Tracer mode. Plus, I’ll stop down to f/4 just to be sure those corners are also a bit sharper. I also opted to purchase one Pelican #1506TSA PeliLock, and newer CVPKG inside lid netting storage holder, which seems to have a bit heavier gauge nylon netting, more robust zippers, and solid ‘backing board’ than Pelican’s original lid netting storage system.The CVPKG lid organizer comes with four screws for attachment to the 1535Air TP’s lid, whose female thread screw posts are part of the same polymer as the lid, and extruded about 3/8” – 1/2” from the inside top of the lid for the ‘backing board’ of the lid organizer to sit against while you line-up the elongated holes in the board with the polymer female thread screw posts & put the metal screws into place. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. This CVPKG lid organizer also fits the 1510 and the OLDER 1535 cases. BOTH of these will require VELCRO FASTENERS. Place your order that way.Now, this is an exceptional travel/working case with only a couple of very small issues that did not require a whole star reduction IMHO. One of them is that this case seems to be in a constant triboelectric state, and therefore attracts any & all tiny lint/dust particles floating around near it when you’re putting in/taking out your gear; the arch-enemy of camera equipment. The other is that the small diameter wheels don’t roll very well on plush carpeting. This is my airport go-to case for travel. It fits in most planes overhead bins, except for the really dinky overhead bins.This "AIR" version from Pelican is noticeably lighter if you have the standard version case side-by-side to compare them. That is a total win for traveling.the wheel set is nice for rolling across an airport and the case is small enough that it will go on the escalator with you, no problem.It will work as an impromptu seat for yourself when you arrive at your gate and all the seats are already taken---close the handle down and take a seat on your case. Yes, I do this quite often. It is not the most comfortable seat you will ever experience, but it is awfully available.I buy my cases withOUT the foam because I constantly reconfigure what goes inside the case(s). But this one is for sure available with foam, or you can add it later.There are two different style latches for these Pelican cases. The case illustrated here has a little button in the center of the latch which makes it easier to open. PLEASE TAKE NOTE---only one in five TSA agents know how to use this latch---if they want to inspect your case, they will try to open the latch by flipping it open, you will need to show them the button that needs depressed to correctly open this style latch.If you have never owned a Pelican case, it is worth noting that pretty much everything on the cases can be replaced. On one of my larger cases, I have replaced the wheel sets multiple times.. not because they are made poorly, but because I abuse the heck out of them, rolling the cases for miles over various terrain and the case loaded down. I have replaced latches from when a TSA agent broke two of the four latches. You can replace the foam as I already mentioned. The handle assemblies can be replaced. The point it, these cases are designed to remain in your service for as long as you need them. I think that is a seriously great feature and should not be overlooked.If you are looking for a hard shell case to stow in the overhead bins of airplanes, this is the one you should be looking at.
