BBC Radio 2 Sounds Of The 80s, Vol 2

I'll be frank, there's a lot of Marmite here. You'll either love some of the reworkings, or totally loathe them. Reading some of the reviews here, some of the tracks I can't bear others love - but that's just our ears, I guess.The standout tracks for me appear to be ones that remain pretty close to the original tempo, but change the style slightly. (Feels Like) Heaven, This Womans Work, Boys of Summer - from CD1, hit the spot....the rest hmm....not so much on this CD. There's a too much of the "y'know, we'll just pare it back to guitar and vocals, yeah?" Frankly too many songs have had the 80's joy just sucked out of them. Will Young murders How Will I Know into some awful dirge. Gabrielle Aplin appears to have zero fun at all with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Guy Garvey's Let's Dance, I just have no words for.CD2 however, ups its game significantly. Almost all the tracks on CD2 I won't tire of soon, bar Charlie Puth (I've no idea who he is but won't be looking out for more). CD2 seems to flow nicer than the poor relative of CD1. There's less stripping back to basics and more expression, for me anyway.

I am a teenager of the 80's, and although I was a huge 80's music lover, my tastes have changed and now I like to hear these songs less frequently. Don't get me wrong I can still dance to the originals when they come on in a bar, but alas I wasn't one for having loads of 80's albums and putting them on rather than something more modern.Saying that, and on hearing some of the songs being played on the radio, I had to have the album. I enjoy the interpretation that other artists can bring to a song no matter how I may have enjoyed the original.Some tracks may be liked more than others, but this collection is a great addition to my album collection.

I enjoyed the first Sounds of the 80s album. Compilations like this are always going to have their duffers, but there are some jewels, especially (in my opinion only!) James Bay's I'm On Fire (did we really need a second version by Leeann Rimes?), Katie Melua's Heartbreaker and Seal's Once In A Lifetime. Others, such as Leona Lewis's Time After Time, are utterly drowned by the artist's attempt to show off their vocal range. Strong tracks like Another Day in Paradise and Let's Dance really lose their power in the acoustic versions appearing here. I'm not even going to dare mention Jamie Cullum's jazzy Everybody Wants To Rule The World. A mixed bag!

I have never left a music review on Amazon before, but felt compelled to write one for this album. I loved the original BBC Radio 2 Sounds of the 80s album, so was pleased to see volume 2 had been released. What a disappointment! This is nowhere as good. Where the original has a good mix of straight covers and slowed down acoustic versions of songs, most of this songs on this album are slowed, acoustic versions, most of which just rip the heart out of the original songs. The majority are uninspiring, and quite depressing. Also, why do we need more versions of the same songs that are on vol 1- in the case of 'how will I know', another 2 versions? It feels like the msicians were given a list of songs to choose from, the best went onto the original album, and the rest were thrown together on volume 2.This is a very, very lazy album. The producers should be ashamed.

Good remix versions of the classics of the 80's being sung by the artists of today.Will appeal to a broad range of listening tastes and a good CD for playing in the car and maybe even singing along too as most of the track (if your of a certain age) will bring back memories to when you first heard the original version in the good old day's of the 80's - happy days.

Great selection of tunes. I'm a big fan of Radio 1 live lounge, so thought I would explore Radio 2s offerings. I'm an 80s/90s girl, so loved the selection of 80s songs with more current artists performing. I also loved the instant autorip as I bought from Amazon, so I could listen immediately at work. This was a great value purchase.
