Impressive debut
Since My Soliloquy's inception in 2002, guitarist Pete Morten has been working hard at honing the band's sound and with three EP's under his belt and line-up upheavals to contend with the long awaited debut album is finally here and it is very much worth the wait.As I am unfamiliar with the metal genre as a whole I have listened to this album extensively and can certainly recommend to anyone who enjoys well constructed, beautifully executed and intelligently written music. The album is definitely a very personal journey for Morten from the warning sounds of the opener Ascension Pending to the soft and tender closer Star. This album has everything, symphonic keyboards, amazing guitar solos, gorgeous vocals. If you like your music fast and furious then check out the relentless Fractured, for a melodic sound building into a crushing finale Six Seconds Grace is a huge high point. There's a dance beat to open up Corrosive De-Emphasis and an eerie build to Inner Circles which has had a complete revamp from its original incarnation on the well received EP Esoterica. This not an album to be firmly pigeon-holed into one genre, there's great commercial viability here and at just under an hour long it's not overlong and repeated listenings just highlight more of the complex construction of Morten's work. It's worth pointing out that other than the drums, Morten played every instrument and with the band line-up now complete for live shows later in 2013 it will be interesting to see how they progress and every success is deserved.
