Mealworm food and bug gel can also be offered, but do not use water as they may drown. **Q: Why feed live mealworms to wild birds rather than dried mealworms?** A: Live mealworms offer a higher nutritional value than dried mealworms, are easier to digest, and offer a source of hydration. It also gives birds a more stimulating experience which can promote better physical and mental health. **Q: What temperature should I store mealworms?** A: If you're looking for low maintenance then keep your mealworms refrigerated. This will slow their metabolism and keep their weight up without the need for feeding. If you want to gut load your mealworms before feeding, then keep at room temperature. ## Frequently Bought Together - Livefoods4u XL Extra Large Locust Live Food (35-50mm) Bag of 100 | Perfect for Reptiles | Sustainably bred | Live food for Reptiles - Livefoods4u Live Locusts Large x 100 (2-3.5cm) Reptile and Lizard Livefood Bulk Bag | Locusts Live Food | Live Locust for Reptiles - UINCLU Waxworms 50 Pack (15g) - Reptile, Bird, Small Mammal - Pets - Pet Owners, Raw Feeders - Live Pet Food - Waxworms - 15g, 0.53oz --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/523039545-live-locusts-xl-bag-of-100-35-50mm-high-protein](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/523039545-live-locusts-xl-bag-of-100-35-50mm-high-protein) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-18*
