It is for paint brushes not drinking

How much water can it hold?

8 to 10 ounces essentially a cup

Is it made to carry water into it or is it supposed to travel empty and be filled up in the field?

Hi M. Mello,The water cup is made to carry water wherever you go. Obviously you still have to take a little bit of care so it doesn't spill. But the pot seals very well!Kind regards,Karolina

What material is the cup made of?

Some type of pliable rubber except for the ring around the top which I think is plastic. They are very durable.
