desertcart.com: Writing for Impact: 8 Secrets from Science That Will Fire Up Your Readersโ Brains: 9781400241484: Birchard, Bill: Books Review: In my Top Three books on writing craft for any writer - This book is incredible. Using the science to show what the brain craves and how it applies to writing has been a gamechanger for how I now approach my writing, and self-edit. I appreciate how he demonstrates each of the eight points in the chapter where its discussed, without being blatant about it. Kinda sneaky. I'm on my second read through. The first time I was engrossed in learning each technique as quickly as I could, taking high level notes. I am now going through it a second time more slowly to savor the wisdom within each chapter and take better notes. In some sections I feel the brain science goes a bit deeper than necessary to convey the point, but ultimately, I appreciate that he provides much evidence to drive the points. I do feel that the book cover doesn't represent how much of a gem this book is -- the burning pen is a bit goofy and misleading (not the author's fault). It's not a pen that should be on fire, it should be a brain with multiple regions all lit up, that is, for readers consuming a book that follows the writing techniques Mr. Birchard presents! This book deserves bestseller status and to be found in every writer's collection of craft books. If more writers read this book, we'd have so many more excellent books! Review: Great for marketers needing to improve their persuasive and & engaging content writing - This book delves deep into the art of transforming mundane writing into compelling narratives that captivate readers. What sets this book apart is its unique approach, blending neuroscience with practical writing strategies. Birchard explains the brain science behind engaging writing, detailing how certain principles activate the brain's dopamine and opioid circuits, making readers eager to continue. One of the most valuable aspects of "Writing for Impact" is its eight potent writing strategies. Each strategy is rooted in scientific research and proven through experiments to enhance reader engagement. These aren't just theoretical concepts; Birchard provides three dozen practical tactics to implement these strategies immediately. From crafting catchy headlines to structuring content in a way that hooks readers, the book is packed with actionable insights. For someone focused on bottom-of-funnel marketing, the emphasis on creating intentional and helpful messaging is particularly relevant. Birchard's strategies help in writing content that not only attracts qualified leads but also builds brand recognition. The examples provided throughout the book are inspiring and illustrate each strategy effectively, making it easier to apply them to my own work. Moreover, the book offers a step-by-step framework to develop a professional writing style. This methodical approach has been instrumental in improving my writing efficiency and effectiveness. I've noticed a significant improvement in my ability to produce engaging content quickly, which is crucial in the fast-paced marketing world.

THIS BOOK IS A MASTERPIECE
I am a physician and a writer. I love the art of science, healing and books. Bill's book is truly a masterpiece of the art and science of writing and healing. I met Bill in 2012. He was helping me get a writing project started. I was living in upstate NY at the time and my children and I were all struggling with a broken heart. I wanted to write our story to ease some of the burden we were feeling. Bill Birchard provided a steady hand, a kind Presence and sound advice at a time when I felt like a ship without an anchor. His book does the same thing for me today. It is an anchor, that contains everything we need to write a meaningful book and communicate our truth with purpose and hope for others. The most important thing it taught me is that when you write with a kind heart and a pure intention, your readers will be filled with this same powerful essence of connection. Truth and kindness create connection. I read the book in one day and literally couldn't put it down. I found myself crying through most of it because I felt his pure desire to help me use my words to communicate better, and this spoke directly to my heart. He is a passionate teacher, and his words deeply touched me. This book doesn't just fire up your brain, it lights a creative fire in your soul. Thank you, Bill. You and your book are a treasure!

A Must Have Guide for Non-fiction
This is a must have guide for non-fiction writers. Although a few examples are repeated, all are relevant. The information in this book addresses pretty much all of the problems that detail intensive writing (technical treatises and historical analyses) have.

Science-Based Approach to Writing
This book helps answer the question, "Why does the reader feel compelled to keep reading?". As writers, we want our readers to be engaged and want more of our writing. Using data accumulated in the laboratory (fMRI, EEG, etc), we learn how the brain responds to words, whether written or spoken. This book won't teach you the mechanics of writing, but it will help you learn how to keep your reader hooked. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to improve their writing.

Writing for Impact is worth your money and time.
The author does a formidable job of explaining the science behind writing in a way that engages and motivates a reading audience. He does this for each of 8 methods of connecting with readers, for example, keep it simple and keep it social. I found I had to find time to digest each chapter in one read, about 30 minutes per chapter. He boils down the science to a readable level for the nonscientist. The methods apply to both fiction and nonfiction, anything beyond writing a manual. The book is worth the money and the time to read it.
