But you could use 1/4 per demijohn I suppose. **Q: after the initial fermentation it seems to have stopped fermenting Is this normal or am i left with 5gallons of sweet syrup.** A: Hi, depending on what you refere to as “the initial fermentation” if this lasted only a couple of days it could be one of several things, assuming everything was fully sterile and you used sugar as the feed, the sugar was not fully dissolved or the start up temperature was not correct. Also at this time of year the mash can get very hot through the vigorous fermentation of this type of yeast killing It off. If the fermentation lasted the normal length of time advised, mine normally takes a couple more than stated, then you may have added too much sugar. Even a few ounces is too much for the yeast to digest. You are then left with very sweet alcoholic mash, still containing undigested sugar, which then does not register with a hydrometer, I made this mistake a now weigh every bag I use as I found there is normally more than the stated weight in a bag of sugar. Happy days ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good *by J***R on 8 January 2015* Evil stuff whenyou first set it off. Effects like putting mints in cola after a few hours. I stood my brewing tub in the utility room sink until it was done. I have used charcoal and produced a clear liquid (wash). Time will tell if it's drinkable but it doesn't smell too bad.
