My wife and I live in Southeast Louisiana (New Orleans) and have to be prepared to evacuate our home because of an approaching hurricane. Because of numerous natural "roadblocks" around us that limit the number of possible evacuation routes out of the city, such as the Mississippi River, Lake Pontchartrain and other connected lakes, bayous, swamps and wetlands, it is of critical importance for us to pre-plan and know how to drive to our primary or secondary evacuation routes, as well as how to get to emergency back-up evacuation routes we can take to get out of the city. There are also only three possible evacuation directions in New Orleans; west (to family in Houston, TX), east (to family in Athens, GA), or north (to family in Louisville, KY). In case of bumper-to-bumper traffic jams that slow the progress of your evacuation to a crawl, or even a complete stop in the event of a multiple-vehicle accident, vehicles' engines overheating and stalling, or vehicles running out of fuel because the driver forgot to fill-up before leaving, having those multiple escape routes in all three directions is a must. To help with that process, I prefer to use the most current Rand McNally State road maps in their "Easy-to-Fold" style because they are covered with a heavy duty plastic that you can write on with erasable color markers to highlight the specific evacuation routes with one color for primary routes, a different color for secondary routes, and a third color for emergency escape routes that might have less traffic than the better known and regularly used routes. As my birthday cakes continue to crowd more and more candles on their top, growing brighter and brighter with the passing of time, my eyesight, unfortunately, seems to be getting dimmer and dimmer. I now need at least 3X power magnification to be able to see and read the road maps clearly, and if it is at night or overcast daytime weather when I'm using these maps. I took care of that situation when I ordered a MagniPros 3X, Almost Half-Page Viewing Area 4-1/5"x 7", LED Illuminated Page Magnifier with 12 Anti-Glare Dimmable LEDs. This page magnifier works very well for me, enlarging the small print typeface used on most maps so I can read them much more easily. The 12 Dimmable LEDs allow me to select the exact level of illumination for the existing conditions, whether in the darkness of night or reduced lighting when skies are overcast, without creating glare on the map and making it difficult to read. This MagniPros 3X Illuminated Page Magnifier is also a very convenient size, fitting easily into the Utility Pouch in which I also store and carry my Rand McNally State Road Maps, color erasable markers and other navigating tools. Powered by three common 1.5V AA batteries, either alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH or Li-ion 1.5V AA batteries, this very affordable 3X LED Illuminated Page Magnifier is not expensive to use. It brightens my maps for these "getting older" eyes and dots all the "i's" and crosses all the "t's" for my magnified illumination needs. I am so glad I bought it. If you have similar needs, "Buy It Now", and I believe you'll be as pleased with it as I was!

This product is great! Super lightweight. 3 light settings. Gets the job done. I bought a guide for something and the print was very small. I thought it was a wasted purchase - I thought maybe a page magnifier might help so I bought this MAGNIPROS page magnifier and I couldn’t be happier.

I finally acknowledge that I have "old eyes." My choices are "readers" (reading glasses) that I constantly have to change in order to live in the rest of the world, or a reading-specific page magnifier. Hence, this review. Like: 1] Allows me to keep my regular glasses on and still read the fine print (...and the things I'm learning! Turns out that a user agreement I accepted does require my firstborn). 2] Large viewing area easily covering a paperback book page and more. 3] Lighting very helpful, especially for night reading in bed, but also useful under other moderate to dim lighting conditions, low contrast print/background conditions, smudged or dirty printing, etc. 4] Low weight. 5] Batteries (complete with their weight) located in the hand-hold area. Thus, the batteries do not tend to make the magnifier "droop" away from the hold-onto area. Dislike: 1] (Nothing major) Minor Quibbles: 1] The page magnifier is not as conveniently portable as the "readers" are. This drawback really cannot be helped, but that means that I either leave it at one place or lug it around in a carry-bag. (Right now my magnifier is assigned to one duty--which it performs superbly--and is placed in the associated bag.) 2] I initially mistook the bagged "cleaning cloth" as package padding. A prominent bag label or a clear package would have prevented a treasure hunt in the trash. 3] By far the biggest one... The battery polarity markings are very difficult for old eyes to see without both good lighting and another magnifier. Being this product's target market is persons looking for vision assistance, it seems logical that the visibility of the battery marking would have received enhancement. Overall, I like this lighted magnifier and will favorably consider repurchase when I identify another situation where frequent transition between regular glasses and page-sized magnification is needed.

This item is good it helps me to be able to read a book I just bought that had super small words.

The plastic these are made from feels cheap and not particularly durable, but it does light up and magnify. Still cumbersome to use, though, because you have to lift the magnifier several inches to actually magnify, and that's going to vary from person to person.

I just wanted you to know how great your magnifier is. My sister has cancer and because of 4 years of chemo, she can't feel her hands and her eyesight has declined. Her favorite things to do during the day is sewing and reading before she goes to bed, something she hasn't been able to do for years. We live 6 hours away from each other and I've bought other products to help her and this is the one she raves about. It really helps me read at night because the lighting isn't sufficient in my bedroom and I've come to realize I need some magnification to supplement what my glasses can do for me. The screen is the perfect size for a hardcover or paperback book. The light source easily reaches the page and because I can't feel my hands this is so lightweight I don't have a problem holding it. I was surprised to find some bonuses in the box. I love the wipe cloth to keep the screen pristine and the small magnifying card with measurements in both inches and the metric system will help with my needle work. The instructions that come with it are easy to read and understand. THANK YOU SO MUCH for such a wonderful product! I don't usually review products I buy on Amazon. I believe when I buy something, and I buy a lot, it should work. But this magnifier goes above and beyond! I loved listening to her over the phone while she opened the box, she was so excited to be able to read in bed again. She hasn't been able to for years because of the chemo. You lose a lot of ability and independence when you have cancer or a handicap. Thank you for your wonderful product and making my sister so happy!

This is a fantastic magnifier! Light weight, easy to us, comes with 3 lighting choices : natural, yellow, and blue lighting choices. I personally like natural best. It is a well made, sturdy product which comes with a nice dlip cover to use store it in, and keep your product clean and avoid scratching when not in use. Its large enough to easily view one half of a normal size of typing paper. You can adjust magnifier by moving it closer or further away depending on your need. The only thing I could think of to make this better -- a stand -- to allow hands free use. Oh! Did I mention is comes with a option of extended warranty. I have found these options, low cost and allow you the continued use of a product you chose to buy based on your need, wants and desires. Simply a great product. Not to bore you, but I have used this product to read lables on cans, prescription bottles, my Bible, and other books, magazines, mail, literally anything I needed to see batter. Best magnifying glass for reading books, magazines, etc. Easy to hold on to. And great for reading in the dark with the lights around the perimeter of the frame.

After putting in the batteries, I took a moment to realize where the switch was: it's the same as the dimmer wheel ... turn until it clicks off... Surprisingly distortion free across the field of view. I've grown up expecting Fresnel lenses to be OK in the middle of the field, but drops off legibility away from it. This is fairly flat all the way to the edge. It's very lightweight, which is what you need when holding it for any length of time, hence it's plastic. But looks smart. Very effective. The lights are variable, but not vital unless in poorly lit up area. So you can save on batteries for using them only when necessary. Being LED's I expect a very long life out of the batteries. All in all, a very good purchase. Well worth the money. Just a quick postscript: It is distortion free if held at the recommended distance, go further out and the image distorts. Keep it at 2"-4" (5-10cms max)
