What is the pH of the water 3 How deep is the tank 4 Do you have plants in the tank I switched from a standard tube to LED lighting and within 3 weeks had blanket weed with gravel and plants covered in algae growth because the light was too strong. Fortunately the light unit is adjustable in strength and overall time it is lit, so you will need to experiment with the light settings.
