How does the bookplate attach to tripod? One user says it slides onto the top of the tripod but that cannot be with mine.

At the top of the tripod there's a flat part that allows you to slide the bookplate. If this is not so contact the supplier.

Is the stand magnetic as I want to use magnets on it for playing outside.

The stand IS NOT magnetic. It is plastic but there are a pair of supporting arms for the music book/sheets...hope this helps.

How tall is it? Is it for standing or sitting use?

Haven’t got the exact measurements but I am 5’8” and at its max height it is fine for standing. It is a very good stand.
