Hello! Your measurement of 6.5 inches is very near my own. I purchased a S/M size and I'm very pleased with its fit. I do not recommend that you purchase a L/XL size, as it would be too loose and cause you to have skin irritation. Peace. Joe

Q: Can I wear these during water aerobics class?

I would not. I believe the chlorine in the water would not be good for the materials. Also I do not use them as they did not help my probnlem.

Q: Are these washable? If so, will the steel splints rust?

Directions say they are hand washable. Slints in mine are not magnetic and shouldn't rust. They feel more like they are plastic.
