Has anyone used these for actual serious percussion playing (rather than just fancy dress)? How do they bear up in fast tempos?

I bought these for my 4yr old daughter to play with as part of her phonics learning. Personally i don't think they would be suitable for percussion playing as the sound and quality is very basic.
