What batteries does this take, or is it only mains?

it takes AA batteries and requires 3

ml (millilitre) is a measure of volume, not weight. As mentioned below, for water gms = mls. Milk is practically the same, as is beer, wine, spirits etc. Thicker liquids such as cream, honey etc. Are obviously heavier per ml.
