Super gloopy with awesome finish. - Goes on like treacle so don't use too big a brush or wrist will ache like......mine! The finish is very, very good and fills in all kinds of surface imperfections and so is very forgiving. Make sure there is no chance of even a light rain as that will spoil the finish. I prepped any rust patches with sanding and primer. I think this has probably given my galvanized roof at least another ten years of life - that makes it a huge saving, right? Time will tell, I suppose. Review: It's Paint - Hammerite paint is normally good. Will it withstand the heat?** A: I can't comment on whether the paint is heat resistant but you would need to remove all of the rust before use. The paint is suitable for various metals and surface finishes but rust is not one of them and therefore if not removed will break down after a very short period of time. **Q: Can I apply this directly to a rusting stainless steel cooker hood. Will it withstand the heat?** A: You can paint straight on to rust. Brush loose stuff off with wire brush first. Never tried it with heat.... but have done garden furniture that is in hot sunny place and that’s ok. **Q: Can this paint be used on steel aswell** A: I used this paint on a galvanised steel door. It was difficult to apply - very thin and streaky. I managed to get a reasonable finish but only after 3 coats Would not recommend this paint. Too hard to apply. It's probably the worst paint I've ever used! **Q: Is this suitable for overpainting an aluminium garden lamp post which is already painted black but slightly flaking in places? And is it a matt finish** A: The paint was gloss, and whilst my lamppost was only galvanised metal when delivered, I used two coats which gave a great finish. This would suggest that your already painted post should be fine in taking a coat of this paint, however it begs the question why you would want to use this more expensive Hammerite paint if not going on to bare galvanised metal. We had a brand new galvanised steel outside stairs railings installed and we put the paint straight on without primer (as you dont need it) and one coat and it looks incredible. We are going to do 2 as it's a bit patchy in places (more to do with the painter than the paint) and used up half the pot, so you would need a lot of paint to do a garage door for instance. It looks amazingly shiny and lovely black.
