Completely different Gas System, op-rod, operating spring bolt etc. those carbon up differently. As the story goes~ I have used in my 55 years of shooting, WWII, Vietnam, era rifle grease out of the can. Hey, was good enough back then, right? This type of grease is still available if you want to pay and remember that grease gets thicker in extremely cold weather. So probably back in the early 2000’s I started using Lubriplate, again good grease for a USGI rifle. But, still what a nightmare to strip and clean. Time to do some soaking to remove all the grease. Couple years back I was shooting at Camp Perry, and this came up among the military rifle class shooters. A fellow shooter started talking to me about the Mil-Comm TW25B Gun Grease. The gentleman was younger than me and told me how it was issued when he was in the military. So, I purchased a tube and let me tell you I have no issues with my M14/Garand. Being the wintertime that is the best time for me to thoroughly clean my USGI weapons. No soaking, just spray down the grease parts with what ever you use Brake Kleen Gun scrub etc. Anyone that reads this please understand I would never tell a fellow shooter how to clean or lubricate their weapon, but just like anything else with technology changes. I have read reviews that this may separate, I cannot speak on this because I squeeze this out in a cup and apply generally with a brush. After kneading about 30 seconds, the grease seemed a bit runny.** A: I know this is old but I wanted to answer your question in regards to how do you know when it is ready to use after kneading. To determine this when you squeeze the content it should come out like white mustard without runny oil. If you squeeze and oily liquid comes out, then you did not knead it well. Remember, tw25b has a NLGI rating of 1 which has the consistency of mustard so if you aren't seeing something mustard like, you're not kneading it enough. **Q: This stuff looks and smells like Lubriplate, what is the percentage of moly, if any?** A: Not sure but I've used both and I like Lubriplate way better. TW25 separates and it's hard to mix in the tube. Lubriplate doesn't. I bought a 14 oz. can of Lubriplate and it will probably last me the rest of my life. **Q: There's a bunch of this stuff at my work and wondering if it would work well with my pocket knives?** A: This is an excellent grease that will work well on anything that needs to be lubricated. It takes very little grease to do the job. Just put a small dab on the item, spit shine it in, if possible, and then remove the excess. Lubricating in this manner introduces a very slippery surface, but one that does not collect dirt and grime. If you are lubricating a location that does not allow spit shining and wiping clean, simply use a small amount and leave a dull sheen such as in when you put car wax on your car. So my answer is yes, absolutely yes. It will work well with pocket knives and any other item that needs to be lubricated.. **Q: Will this also clean the bore?** A: No. Mil-Comm makes M25 Gun & Bore Cleaner. I used to buy my Mil-Comm lubricants on line and off Mil-Comm's site.I now buy from the NRA's site. All of my fire arms are lubed and cleaned using Mil-Comm. What's good enough of ourmilitary's Gatling Guns is good enough for me. Clean all prevous lubes off, spray with 91% alcohol__then for the first application of Mil-Comm I heat the metal with a hair dryer then while warm I apply the Mil-Comm grease and allow it topenetrate the metal's pores for fifteen minutes (of a bit longer).
