i love the stuff!!!
so i bought this before i read the previous review and i thought ' i just wasteds $30!' tyrns out, the stuff is great. i use a brush to glob it on thick. Wait about 5 - 10 min. Wipe it off. Put it back in container and wash the glass with warm water. I'm so glad the other guy was wrong. Maybe he didn't put it on thick enough. It works on glass (not Pyrex), mirror, and metal. It doesn't seem to work on porcelain like it says it does. Considering that glass etching is now my primary income, I'm really glad it works and its reusable. I've used it since like the second week of Dec, and it doesn't look like I've even used it. Whew! Thanks to whoever created this stuff! I do sugest wearing latex or rubber gloves. The stuff is pretty potent. Check out what I use it for on [email protected]

Didn't work as well as I'd hoped
This isn't as good as the Armour Etching Cream -- tho the directions say 5 minutes, my class found that it took much longer. I bought this product because I got more product for the money I paid as I was teaching a class.

This stuff is awesome!
This stuff is great! We use it to etch custom art onto glass mugs. We were previously blasting the glass with aluminum oxide but this stuff works just as good. It allows us to etch more glass at one time which equals faster turn around and more opportunity to make money.

Failed to degloss clawfoot tub - Waste of time and money
I tried to use XIM Etching Cream (owned by Rusotleum) to rough up the surface of my porcelain-coated cast iron claw foot tub, with the hope of getting better adhesion of the Rustoleum Tub and Tile epoxy. I spent **hours** in prepping my tub and made sure that there was absolutely no soap residue on its surface. (According to Rustoleum, soap scum can prevent XIM from working.) My tub has never been refinished. I am convinced that before I applied the XIM, my tub was cleaner than it has been in 100 years, although I can vouch personally only for the past 25. I followed the instructions to the letter, except that I waited for 15 minutes, as some reviewers suggested, before washing it off. I did NOT allow it to dry out before removing. The surface of my tub appears unchanged, except for a powdery residue that I am struggling to remove. Either my XIM was from a bad batch, or this is a completely worthless product. Or both. I chose this product because it's owned by Rustoleum, and assumed that it would be the best product to use with the Rustoleum Bath & Tile Kit that I'll be using. Please don't make my mistake, and try something else.

So I just want to first let people know I never used etching cream before. I went with this because it was the best quantity/price item I could find EVEN with the pricey shipping. The first etchings I tried were horrible. I read about etching online and left it for longer and it works great. I tried it on glass and on a black mug and I'm very pleased with the results :) I put picture so you guys could compare! Btw there's barely any product used EVER so you might want to consider a smaller size...

Time saver!
Awesome stuff! I threw a large 50th birthday bash at a winery and wanted to spray wine bottles with chalkboard paint...I started to sand them and realized how long that would take...so I found this. The stuff is great! You do need to put a generous amount on the surface and it should be where there is very little draft and it is cool. My first try I wasn't heavy handed with it and it was 85 degrees out - even though I was in the shade, the product "dried" and was hard to get it all off. My second attempt was on a much cooler day and I used a rubber spatula to scrape the product off and back into the tub. I etched about 36 bottles and barely made a dent in the use of product.

Definitely a Time Saver
I wanted to change the trim on my ceramic tile in my bathroom but I did not want to sand it. This is a life saver. I don't know if I made it more tedious by doing a small section at a time but it was certainly shorter than sanding and the clean up after. If I was doing a tub or the entire wall I would have shortened my time immensely. I did do a mis-step, I was supposed to scrape this off and put it back in the bucket but I used really hot water and a heavy cloth to remove it. It still worked, it etched the ceramic tile and I then used Rustoleum Tub and Tile to paint over the ceramic.
