Chicago Case 95-8581 Slim Line Military-Style Wheeled Tool Case

This case has spring loaded butterfly clamps (2) to latch it closed. Additionally, there is a built in hasp to accommodate a separate padlock to secure the contents or, if you fly, you can you can use a TSA approved lock. My First case was manufactured by Jensen and lasted almost 30 years but was getting ragged and I was tired of picking it up and carrying it. Looking for a wheeled case, I initially purchased a B&W International case from Frys that looked nice but did not survive the TSA chiseling open an unlocked push//slide latch. This is not an indictment of the B&W case in general but it is not really up to the rigors of modern day shipping or flying. It would be fine for use "around town" but not for a frequent flyer. I decide to replace the effectively destroyed B&W case with one that I feel is much more "idiot proof" and based on experience with Chicago Case, as well as other shipping containers, chose this one. Pros - Solid build with great structural integrity - Comfortable retractable handle that latches in place - solid rim and latched between the two halves - provision for a separate lock of your choice - did I mention wheels? - weight under 20 pounds giving you room for another 30 pounds of tools and components without the airlines nailing your wallet to the wall with overweight baggage fees Cons - not really - other (much) more expensive cases have additional latches. I did not feel the additional latches were worth as much as several hundred dollars. Regrets - should have bought this one to begin with and waited the very few days for it to ship instead of rushing over to a brick and mortar store and taking cheaper but available.

Bought this August 2015. Now it’s April 2019. Travel every week, mostly by air. The case has had a rough life so far. Wheels started to make noise after 1 trip. Got worse until after a few months the bearings were completely disintegrated. Contacted manufacturer, they send a replacement wheel set with mounting instructions free of charge, received the wheels two days later. Replaced them and haven’t had any issues since then. It holds the tools reasonably well in place but I used foam pads in between so everything is pressed together. The latches are not great. They stick out instead of being recessed. Sometimes one of them is loose after air travel (I suspect though that is partially caused by TSA not closing the case properly, the latches are not so easy too close when you have to apply pressure on the lid to close, as it is with my toolcase). The supplied TSA approved lock was a joke. It lasted 2 trips. As it’s supposed to be attached to the large metal lids (that are also not recessed but sticking out) the lock got mangled and was destroyed. Those lock lids have another nasty disadvantage, they easily damage other suitcases. After almost 4 years the case is still holding up although the lid is a little harder to close as there are some dents and bends, but not too bad. When standing upright it tends to lean over but doesn’t actually fall over. It needs some extra support at the bottom. Removed the rubber support on the long side as it was mounted with a bolt sticking inside and damaging my organizers. I would say it’s a good case, but it would be great if they would improve the closing mechanism.

very durable. Has last for years of travel. Held up to airports and foreign country travel well. Always kept my tools safe and sound.

Very nice case at a great price compared to other options. The tool pallets are also well made and hold a lot. My only complaint is the TSA padlock provided "Free with Purchase" is so unsubstantial it could be jimmied open with about anything. Nice try, but if you're going to include a lock, please make it one that requires a bolt cutter to breech.

I was tired of using my other tool case that everything just gets thrown into. My tools are so organized now and I can see if I left a tool out easily. I've been using this case for almost a year now and I'm very happy with it.

the tool box itself is great but my wheels are completely disintegrated, this i am not pleased with as i have only had the tool box about a month.

For field service technician, comes with top and bottom palettes. Light, easy to carry, two handles. One place for locking. Very happy with. Do the job.
