Is this and a free mcboot memory card all i need? just put games on any sata hdd, plug in, and good to go?

Yes. Although I personally like second-hand 2.5inch SATA drives that are smaller and lighter than the 3.5inch versions. They tend to resale slightly higher, but as they are low powered, they only have a SATA connector on it and no power source. Therefore, using one of our USB > SATA connector adapters, you can connect your SATA hard-drive to a PC without a separate power source.  They are therefore a simple plug and play device. All 3.5inch drives tend to come from desktop PC's and require a separate 4-pin molex connector to power them. Therefore when you connect it to your PC to load it with PS2 games, you need a power connector to power it. Therefore most people will use a bulky docking station which tend to be more expensive. Any SATA hard-drive around 250GB - 500GB is best.

Hi i have an seagate/hgst 2.5” hard drive would this work with the adapter?

Yes it would providing it is a SATA hard-drive.

You need to use WinHIIP on your PC to successfully format and setup your hard-drive for PS2 usage.

As you have a 2.5inch drive, they dont require a separate power source and are therefore 'plug and play'.

This means you can use one of our USB to SATA adapters that we sell and connect your 2.5inch hard-drive to your PC in preparation for WinHIIP game loading.

2.5inch drives also run a little less hot than 3.5inch drives as they use less energy

Is this able to power a 3.5 inch hard drive that requires external power?

Yes it is, so you dont need to worry about additional power sources!. I like the look and feel of 3.5 inch drives and the sit nicely inside the adaptor and in turn inside the playstation2. They are also cheaper to buy per GB than a 2.5inch drive and there is a bigger range. However, I prefer 2.5inch drives as they dont need a separate power source. Therefore you can purchase a USB > Sata adaptor (I sell them on Amazon so please view my items) and just plug it into your pc/laptop and load it with games without the hassle of separate power sources. With the 3.5inch drive, you need to purchase a docking station or cable with a 4pin power connector, to be able to power these drives. For this reason, and this reason alone, a 2.5inch drive is a much better solution for quickly loading ps2 games! Obviously if you have a docking station and are comfortable with this, then go with a 3.5inch drive! Thank you

Does this network adapter come with a hard drive or without?

This is only the adapter. It does NOT come with a hard-drive. You have a choice of adding 2.5inch or 3.5inch SATA hard-drives from a small GB to a maximum of 1TB. It is also possible for some drives to work at 2TB but it requires some work to enable drives of this size.
