For those who do not know what this tool does:The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions.Who needs this tool:Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example.Quality:The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand.Outcome:I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

The wisk things are stainless steel and are well made. Kind of thick but it works. It's very sturdy and heavy. The only con that I have with this item is that when you put it back into the base it's very loose. Bonus: comes with extra wisk thingys.

I use this multiple times a day and it works perfectly. It was easy to assemble and after grinding the coffee into the portafilter, it only takes seconds for this to distribute the coffee to ensure I get an even, consistent tamp and espresso shot. There's nothing I would change as it works exactly as I hoped and has good quality for the price.

Nice and comes with replacement tines. Only issue is it is difficult getting back into the holder and the top is a bit wobbly on the base. Not all tines go in easily- one always wants to go outside the base which necessitates a re-entry. You can chose to use less tines so that may help in getting it back into base. My trick when returning to base is to bring it down toward base at an angle and twist it slightly so tines rotate into the base. Solid construction though.

Great product

This WDT tool definitely works to break up clumps in espresso. From that perspective it's a decent tool.My issues with this tool are with the usability. The top doesn't sit particularly well on the base. There's no mechanism to lock the cap on, only gravity to hold it down. That means that you can't really lay it on its side or put it in a drawer it comes apart, potentially bending the needles.. The top also just barely sits in the base so it doesn't feel like its particularly stable or secure. Also since it's long and top heavy, it's easy to knock over and then it comes apart.You also have to be somewhat careful when placing the top on so you don't catch any needles on the side of the base as you put it in and bend them. It's not like it's really hard to do, just annoying.Aside from the usability issues it seems fairly well made. It does look pretty good, and like I said performs its primary function reasonably well. It's just a little frustrating to use.
