Outward Hound Nina Ottosson Lickin’ Layers 3-in-1 Dog Toy Treat Puzzle, 10"

If there is one thing that Fluffer Nutter Von Floof needs to do, it's slow down while he's eating. My little floof has a terrible habit of *inhaling* his meals, and the Outward Hound by Nina Ottosson Lickin’ Layers made a *huge* difference in getting him to slow down and enjoy his food a little. The puzzle is very easy for dogs to solve. The two top layers rotate, exposing sections of food for your dog to eat on the lower plates. Each layer is thick and sturdy feeling, and they turn easily without making any noise, so it won't startle your dog as they work with it. There are small openings so you dog will need to work a little to get food out, and I loved how the entire puzzle comes apart for easy filling and washing. It was nice seeing Fluffer Nutter's mealtime go from 30 seconds to about five as he turned and checked the bowl over again and again to make sure he got every last bit of food out of it. While it didn't stump him at all, it did force him to slow down, and the sniffing and turning of the plates made mealtime a little more interesting to him. The only complaint about this puzzle is that the center peg may be a little difficult for some to pinch to free the upper two plates, but I didn't have too hard of a time separating everything. Overall, it's a good puzzle for puppies or small dogs to use to keep them from snarfing down their food.

Takes a minute to load, but definitely slows down my chowhound Lee. Works great, durable, good design. Lee is a medium sized dog, 40 pounds. Not sure this would hold enough for a bigger dog. Worth the money

This is the best! My puppies used to wuf down their food so fast and then almost throw up after! I was worried that the bigger puppy would eat most before the smaller one could get enough. This bowl provides not only a slower way to feed but a mind stimulating puzzle for them to figure out providing many sensory stimulations. They have to figure out the puzzle, it has different taste and textures, its visually pleasing (versus their plain old dog bowl), and has different smells! I like that it’s hard enough to last two puppies biting at it so it’s durable too. I can change up the fillings every time to keep them interested. This time I chose: their kibble, a few chewy treats mixed in, plain yogurt smashed with banana smeared on one underside, and peanut butter smeared on the other underside. I also broke up blueberries and dropped a little bit of yogurt in with the kibble. I would definitely recommend this product!

I have a Giant Schnauzer mix and it's hard to keep him physically and mentally stimulated in these hot Texas summers. Tried this for the first time this morning with some kibble and wet food and 15 minutes later, he's still going for it and making engaged grunting noises. The only problem is that he can pick it up and move it, which is making a mess, so have some sort of suction cup on the bottom would make it a 5 star product

I rinse it clean without taking it apart, using the wide spray on the kitchen sink, because I find it difficult to take apart and put back together without making a mess. The fastener clip is small and hard to manipulate. However it rinses off pretty easily, you just have to spin each layer. (Use the gentle or wide spray to avoid water going everywhere. It easily holds about one 13oz can of dogfood. It takes about half a can to fill it enough to make it worth the dog's time imho. My 23lb corgi mix loves it. She can focuses on getting every lick out of every layer, and keeps her busy a while. It has helped her tremendously slow down on her meals and also provides enrichment and entertainment. 13 lb chihuahua mix is less thorough, he grabs what he can easily get, and cries for a refill! 10lb rescue chihuahua mix did not understand it at all and is much more toy motivated than food motivated, but he is a picky eater and did not need slowing down. So, for the purpose intended, slow down my vacuum-corgi mix dog, it's worked fantastic, and she also enjoys playing with it. Good for a dog who likes a challenge, or eats way too fast. I love that it doesn't tip over, she hasn't flipped it over yet with daily use. I've used it with both small dry kibble and wet food, works fine with both. It's easy to smear canned food onto it even if you don't take the layers apart. Doesn't need to be perfect, she's happy, I'm happy

1. Seems like a neat idea, but it's time consuming to clean properly. It doesn't come apart so that you can clean it, instead you have to do the puzzle as a human to get into each of the nooks to clean it out, so it's extremely time consuming as a human. Any time that you think you have saved being able to do something while your dog is puzzling, is in fact useless because it takes longer to clean than it did for the dog to figure out the puzzle. 2. My dog didn't care for this puzzle. He has many other puzzles that he enjoys but this one he did not enjoy at all. Sorry I wasted my hard earned money on this as it was a use once (dog doesn't like) and be done (human doesn't like the time it takes to clean. They should design this better for both human and pet to enjoy.

Really slow down how fast your pet eats. Makes them think.

We got this to hopefully slow down the wenie dogs food routine. The dog seems to enjoy it. The plastic seems nice and sturdy. The 3 layers come apart for easy cleaning and they fit together easily. It's not too loud when he's eating. The material is nice smooth.

My Labs love this. Its good for fast eaters too. It fits about 1 cup of kibble in it. Comes apart easily for cleaning. If I could make one adjustment it would be for a better rubber bottom so it can be pushed around the floor as easily. Otherwise its a grear purchase I think all dogs show have.

Bien sympa aussi pour les chats! Je cherchais un jeu interactif pour mon chat, pour avoir une gamelle antiglouton mais didactique. Faceile à demonter pour le nettoyage. Je ne penses pas que cela sera adapté à des grands chiens ou de taille moyenne juste car cela serais trop simple pour eux niveau taille

We are very pleased with this slowfeeder. It takes our golden almost 40 minutes to finish her meal. We fill it with her kibble and water and we put it in the freezer for the night. She absolutely loves it!
