Fantastic add on to the Berkey Water Filtration System - Great Spigot
Bought it used through Amazon Warehouse and all is fine. Still need to set it up though but have had a Berkey in the house before so nothing new. 1 Year Update: This spigot is highly handy to know your water level in the main tank. It has lasted wonderfully with no leakage or problems and it gets used multiple times per day. Meaning it has been used well over 1000 times and it still acts brand new. We are very happy that we chose to add this to our Berkey System. You should add one to yours too. You won't regret it! As product testers, we did not receive a discounted price of this product to give our honest and unbiased review of said product. Greatly improved flow and nice aesthetic
The Berkey glass level spigot is very easy to install. I left a glass under the spigot on top of my trash can (the Berkey on the edge of the counter) the first time I filled it and it was bone dry the next morning. The instructions for installation were easy to follow and I took the time to give my Royal Berkey a cleaning while I had it opened up as well. There are two changes I've noticed the most with this spigot, #1 it is a little wider than the default one and doesn't fit so well into the Ikea glass litre bottles I fill to keep cold water in the fridge (the ones with the rubber stopped like a bottle of Grolsch). #2 perhaps because of this, it pours much faster and I've found you get higher flow much lower to empty than the previous spigot. This is a big bonus, filling up kettles, saucepans, coffee pots, bottles for drinking water, it is so much faster now. The water level varies in accuracy but really it's there to let you know when it's getting low, not whether it's 3/4 full or 7/8 full, so for this purpose it delivers in spades. I'm very happy with the glass spigot, primarily for the increased flow of water. The spigot seems well built and sturdy. To be honest most of the time I still fill up my Berkey once the flow is greatly reduced so that means it's almost empty. Sometimes I check the level to know when to fill it, but that being the primary reason I bought it I can't say I'm using that function of it very often. Still, the increased flow and to a far lesser extent the better aesthetic make this a 5-star easily recommendable purchase.

Just received today for my Big Berkey. It's great little spigot and wish I had ordered it from the beginning. Actually I agree with others that it should be standard equipment. The flow rate is great. For those having trouble with leaks. I found the thin washers provided a little lacking, so I used the washers from my original spigot. I rub a little olive oil on the outside washer. Do not tighten it so tight that the washer becomes out of shape. I find that tight enough is me holding the inside nut with my fingers and tighten that way. When checking for leaks after install fill your bottom holding tank all the way up so there is water pressure applied to the washers. I discovered this when I only put enough water in to cover the spigot on the inside. I thought everything was fine and had no leaks until I filled the entire holding container with a full 2 gallons of water, that's when the leak appeared. Just tightened a little more and was good to go. I wish someone would produce one made entirely of stainless steel with no plastic. I would most definitely be the first to purchase one.

Works great, but overfilling Berkey will send water through the sight glass vent hole
I've been pleased with this device. Once I overcame my bonehead mistake and learned not to overfill the top chamber, I've had good success, and none of the leakage that some have reported. First, I took the reviews seriously and ensured I tightened the spigot well and got a good seal where it penetrates the bottom chamber. I tested this over the sink to be sure I had it well-sealed. All is well there. The bonehead lesson came in the form of overfilling the top chamber. Before I got this sight glass, I had the standard spigot, and never had a problem. It didn't matter how much water was already in the bottom, I could still add to the top of the top chamber. If that brought the level in the bottom chamber to maximum, it wasn't a problem because the rest would sit in the top chamber and not leak. (I'd been worried that it would because there's no seal between the top and bottom, just an overlap. But it turns out that apparently any excess sitting in the top pushes outward on the inside of the top chamber and sufficiently tightens it against the bottom chamber at the overlap.) But the same is not true when this sight glass is installed. You see, the sight glass has a vent hole at the top. Of course it would - it has to, or else any air in the glass just gets compressed and pushes back against the rising water level and gives an inaccurate reading. But what this means is that the maximum level your Berkey will hold is exactly the same level as the top of the sight glass. Any more than that and water, which will ALWAYS level itself, comes merrily out the top of the glass through the vent hole, and all over your floor. The first time this happened to me, I thought my seal at the flange had given way, but I verified it was good and filled (overfilled) my Berkey again. This time, I caught it in the act of bubbling out the top of my sight glass. Silly me - don't tell anyone I have an engineering degree, because it didn't save me from a Homer Simpson moment or two.

definitely worth it. Why doesn't Berkey use these for every model?
much better to see the water level!

Wouldn' t be without it.
Spend money on the spigot save from having to check bothe containers before adding water. You do have to filled up bottom section and read spigot and then you will at what level is full..it does not fill as far up as you thing it would if you do keep adding water to top and it overefills on bottom water will work is way up top of spigot and start come in our the air vent hole. I will say when you cut it off after filling container it is drip free.

Genuine berkey glass spigot!!! To all those has leaking read this!!!
Ok i ordered this last month as every authorized dealer is out of stock. I was very hesitant at first cause I'm worried this is not genuine but i took the risk. Then i installed it and it works for a few days. Then after a while its starting to drip. So i was disappointed and return it right away. I went to look and buy from an authorized berkey seller. When it arrived and compared it to the one i got from amazon, its exactly the same! Even the washer from the authorized dealer is also flat!!!! It's exactly the same even the instructions and the manual! The only difference we did is that you have to rotate the glass from 9pm to 12am, you have to keep on repeating the 9 to 12 in order for the washer to get a tight sealed. Up to now, it hasn't leaked yet! If only i did the 9 to 12 on this one i got from amazon i wouldn't return it. So guys this is genuine FYI. You have to keep on turning from 9 to 12 until you get a feel of the tight seal on the washer.

I expected more for the price
This is a mediocre product. Paying close to $45 with shipping, I expected a product worth close to $45 or at least $35. If I were doing it all over again, I wouldn't pay more than $25 for this. It does function as a good water gauge which was the purpose I bought it. If you're like me, you don't want to have to remember to check the water all the time and this works well to quickly glance at it and know how much water is in it and when to refill it. Pros: Good water gauge Good flow of water Comes apart easily to clean Glass tube Fast shipping Cons: Silver plastic casing around the glass tube is plastic and not stainless steel Plastic casing does not match my stainless steel Royal Berkey No replacement parts if something, such as the glass tube, breaks (You would have to buy the whole thing over again!) Spigot threads attaching to Berkey system are too short, the company sends a really thin, non-beveled washer to make up for this. It took a couple tries to get the two washers and plastic nut onto the few threads on the new spigot without any leaks. It has to be tight enough to seal, but too tight and the washer pushes away from the plastic nut and leaks. After tightening the plastic nut enough to seal but not too much to push away, the plastic nut was only partially on the threads but it works. Overall, this is a mediocre product, over-priced at $45, fair purchase at $25 or less.

Makes life easier! I love it!
I'm so glad I read the reviews and decided to grab one of these when I bought our Big Berkey! It's wonderful, and works like a charm. No issues at all. LOVE IT.

Devrait être vendu en série...
Clairement indispensable pour voir le niveau d'eau de mon big Berkey, mais aussi plus pratique car il a plus de débit. Esthétiquement parlant, un gros plus aussi.

spout easy to use and best of all it doesn't drip ...
comes in very handy in knowing when to refill the filter tank; spout easy to use and best of all it doesn't drip when shut off

Useful but not really a reliable gauge
When pouring out water, the water level in this sight glass can drop to zero level and once you shut off the spigot, the water level springs up into the sight glass. Still, at rest, this sight glass does let you know if there's still enough water in the tank or not. My friend has a Berkey tank too and says by the strength of the water being dispensed, you can already estimate if the tank is near empty or not. As such, there's no real need to pay for this sight glass spigot.
