Uh guys, there is no "engineering" that goes into this product. By buying this product you are not supporting an American engineer sitting at his desk working away in some computer aided software designer. Let me explain how "Made in China" works: first the company rep travels to China, bringing along a vice grip previously engineered and manufactured in the USA, and says, "Here ya go, now make this for a quarter the price." Then the Chinese factory does their best to replicate it, while cutting corners and using substandard materials and manufacturing methods. Lastly, the company rep goes home and fires the original engineer. The whole "Designed in the USA" marketing ploy is a sham!

WHAT SIZE IS THE CLAMP?

Hummmm... you're asking about a 18-6SP clamp. I recently ordered a 11SP clamp and here are the measurements I made off it: The clamping pad surfaces open to a maximum distance of about 4.5" and when "clamped" tight they'd be clamping something about 3.75" thick. The inside "depth" of the "C" (i.e., from the clamping pads to the backside of the clamp's yoke) is about 2.5"; and the closed-clamp, inside height of the "C" is 3.75". Hope this helps. Vice-Grip makes some much larger "C" clamps, with much deeper throats...

Does this clamp work with the Kreg R3 pocket screw jig?

You should purchase the larger clamp, or get the one that vise grip makes for kreg. The one provided by kred is more expensive, but it actually works just a little better. The vise grip clamp is the vp11r (old model # before bought by irwin)

There used to be non marring pads for vise-grip c-clamps. are these still available?

I use Irwin Vise-Grip Soft Pads. The package says they fit the 11SP, 18SP and the 24SP. I also use them for the 9SP and the 6SP. They're a little big for the 6SP, but they work.
