It worked great to locate a very small LP leak. Had a new furnace installed and could faintly smell gas from time to time. Tried soapy water and leak detection liquid from plumbing supply house but couldn't find it. Bought the PT520A and started checking the gas joints and found the leak within two minutes. It was in a connection under the gas valve that I couldn't really get to with my detection solutions. The PT520A is very easy to use and clearly tells you when gas is detected. It is basic. There is no readout telling you the concentration of gas but the audible alarm and bar graph give you a general idea. In my case it worked very well to locate the leak and is worth the money. I would recommend it for a cheap detection devise for around the house or camper. And yes, I did call the furnace installer and they responded within 2 hours to correct the issue.

This Gas Leak Detector comes in a very nice protective case and the 3 brand-named batteries are included, easy to read and understand instructions, so you can use it right out of the box. I purchased it because I have a propane tankless hot water heater, and my family and I started smelling rotten egg smells in our garage where the tank is located. We called a plumber, who fixed the tankless water heater, but not the source of the smell, so it seemed. We left the garage door open, then turned to Amazon for a Gas Leak Detector and this one met all of our needs and was reasonably priced. Within less than 24 hours of ordering it, it was in our home sending out an alarm as it picked up deadly propane in the air. We immediately called 911, the firemen's professional sniffer detected the same, and the Firemen took actions to ensure we were safe to stay in our home while we waited on the plumber. The plumber came back the very next morning and said he had purchased a Gas Leak Detector for over $200 on the way to our house, and it too found a propane gas in the air. It wasn't long after that the problem was found and fixed. We had used our detector and ran it along the Water heater and then along the main supply gas line and the signal became stronger the closer we got to a certain area. The plumber's detector did the same thing in the same area and sure enough there was a small but deadly hole in the metal coil gas supply line. Based off of how well this Gas Leak Detector preformed for our needs, I would recommend it for a propane gas leak detection as it states in its description. However, if you think you smell something rotten and you have propane for any reason, DON'T do as we did. Please call 911 first, keep doors and windows open and then buy this! It's a great gift to give to someone who has propane use in their home as a housewarming gift or Christmas stocking stuffer too.

This PT520A natural gas detector does exactly what it’s supposed to do. The 17‑inch gooseneck makes it easy to reach tight spots behind dryers, and it reliably picks up gas leaks so you can pinpoint the source quickly. Straightforward, effective, and a solid tool to have on hand for safety checks.

Have been noticiing a gas smell from indoor registers when using HVAC in first few seconds of use. Did the usual soap tests around the furnace pipes with no result, but was smelling a faint odor of natural gas. Shut gas off and ordered this unit overnight. Device paid for itself in the first hour of use. It detected a hint of gas from register when HVAC was first blowing. Later it found a very sneaky leak in 1/2in rusty outdoor gas pipe just before the gas valve on a Goodman furnace. There was also some strong detection of gas around the top orifice on the gas manifold. This often indicates a faulty gas valve, so that will need to be replaced along with the corroded pipe. The switchable sensitivity is helpful determining a more accurate location of leak (low setting) versus a detection in the air near a leak (high setting) Fast forward 24 hours later and I replaced the gas valve (White-Rodgers 36G, another review). pipe (using Rectorseal #5 on threads) and some minor tightening of orifices. All works well and no further leaks have been detected. Would give five stars for review, but I'm deducting (half star) for one key feature I believe missing - the device could use an optional readings hold, where the highest meter reading is left active on screen until cleared. This device is near real-time only and the reading will quickly go to zero if you're not quick to read. Where you are reaching into a tight space, it may not be easy to eye your readings quick enough. Realistically its OK as there's a beep to indicate a finding, but it's helpful to know how much Couple other items to keep in mind, the unit when powered on will take approx. 20 seconds till its ready to use. Apparently it does a calibration prior to use. So keep it away from any suspected leaks till the unit is ready. Also, I just received this unit, so I haven't tested whether any parasitic battery drain occurs when not being used. I only mention as the battery door is secured with a tiny phillips screw. The unit does come with a nice carry case, so it's fairly practical to keep a small spare screw driver in the case and remove/store the batteries in the case when not in use. Overall, this tool is a keeper. 4.5/5 stars

So far the unit is working well. Easy to use, flexible section allows testing in narrow areas. Very handy

While the instructions are not crystal clear, there are videos online that assisted. Frankly, it was simple, once you turn the unit on, it will run for 45 seconds or so, then the wand becomes active. It work just fine and identified specifically where the slow leak I had was coming from. Battery life seems good, but a little time to remove tiny screw to install new ones. However, they last a very long time!

I knew I smelled Gas!! I sniffed out an old leaking gas valve behind the clothes dryer. This pinpointed the exact location and exact spot on valve. Found it, capped it and now my house is safer and doesn’t smell of rotten eggs.

Es una tranquilidad tener este aparato porque te indica si tienes una fuga de manera sencilla y ágil. En mi caso he pasado la revisión del gas y al tener que cambiarme una llave por fuga detectada por el inspector, al manipular la del contador el lampista que me la sustituyó que no tenía este detector (¿por qué no se obliga a los lampistas que cambian llaves de paso a tener un detector como este?) empezó a tener pequeña fuga que pude detectar cuando me llegó este aparato al cabo de dos días. Si no lo hubiese tenido habría tenido una fuga hasta la próxima revisión de 5 años, con el riesgo que conlleva en el interior de una vivienda porque al ser la llave anterior del contador, no había movimiento de los dígitos ni aumento del gasto. Puede que me haya salvado de tener un gran disgusto, por los 40€ que vale.
