Poor design of THE BALE requires pole-mounting to stop larger mammals.
This is truly an excellent feeder! Large-capacity, easy-fill etc. My only issue with it was that to hang it from a wire was problematic because of the strength of raccoons etc. which easily pulled the (unsecured) bale ends away. If the ends of the handle, inside the enclosure, had been secure-able it would have worked well as a hanging feeder.

Perfect and strong feeder for a multitude of birds
Received and used my first Absolute II Electric Blue feeder for two seasons, and the squirrels did have a difficult time getting into the feeder but one made it and experienced a BB shot from my BB pistol which delivers a sting but not lethal or as strong as a BB rifle. The squirrel jumped in the air for about 20 feet and never seen it again on the feeder. The squirrel must have told his fellow thieves about its experiences and zero squirrels have attempted to steal sun flower seeds. Squirrels and chip monks come to the ground under the feeder but not on the feeder. My home is in the NE Georgia Mountains and a large population of various bird species call the mountains home as well as birds that migrate to the mountains in the spring and summer for breeding and the feeder handles the traffic surge well. Birds learned to wait their turn and share. At first they did not but they learned to tolerate one another and also stopped pecking one another. Could not find any sharp areas on the feeder and not one bird was harmed, on our feeder, even with heavy bird traffic from the chickadees to medium sized wood peckers. Now, for the quality of the build. For two seasons the bears would grab the feeder and pull and pull it off its hook until it fell about 10' to the ground and they'd eat all the seed. Even with the bears taking the feeder down it never stopped feeding the birds after replacing the feeder again on its hook. However, this year's early spring and the bears coming from hibernation, one wise bear decided he's not going to let the feeder remain in continued reservice and stole the whole heavy feeder laden a full, to the top, with black oil sunflower seeds . He must have been a big one to carry off the feeder with absolutely no sign where the feeder might lay. Our home is in the forest of the mountains and when the fall arrives and the foliage falls, we'll find the bird feeder and I'd like to update this review with the condition of the feeder when found? With all the previous attacks, by the bears, one cannot not tell there was any damage to the feeder. I have ordered another feeder exactly as before as I have confidence the feeder is sturdy and survived previous bear attacks and the feeder was virtually unharmed, I'll give the new feeder another go with confidence our local and visiting birds will be fed well and safely fed too.

Pretty squirrel proof. Bear proof, not so much.....
We LOVE this feeder. It's actually replacing the exact same model we bought many years ago that has recently had an encounter with a bear. While I'm happy to report that one half of the feeder is still functioning as designed, the other side has some distinctive bends in it that hurt the functionality. What we liked about this feeder so much that we sought out the exact replacement is just how sturdy this thing is. Metal. Almost everywhere. Arguably this is one of the most well built feeders on the market. It has worn well for us. When we first put this model out, it took 2 solid years for the squirrels for figure out how to get at the black oil sunflower seeds we feed the birds. In that time it paid for itself if seed savings. We hang this feeder on a wire cable hung from a tree branch. Now, squirrels being squirrels, they will eventually figure everything out, and after about a two year learning curve, they come down on to the top of the feeder and hang upside down by one leg, stretching around to grab a seed. It is certainly a process that keeps them from emptying the feeder fast. I figure if they go to all this work, they've earned it.Unlike a lot of feeders on the market, birds can feed from both sides of this feeder, with separate adjustable spring levers that allow you to customize the weight it will accept before the door closes. The feed also comes with all the necessary hardware to create a pole mount, including the pole. The hopper holds a very large amount of seeds, so we're not filling it every day. Also a plus. Unequivocally recommend this feeder, and so happy that I found it still on the market years later!

Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder
Shipping was very quick. The birds can feed on both sides and the squirrels cannot get in the feeder. You do need to be careful when filling the feeder and hanging it back up as the handle can slip out and hit you in the face.

Not bad but not squirrel proof
There are two holes on each side near the spring adjusters, the holes don't need to be there but it allows the squirrels to gain access to the seed, I've watched them do it on mine. If the holes weren't there it would be virtually squirrel proof

there are MUCH better options
This feeder arrived dented but still worked fine so I kept it. But it is flimsy metal and, after a squirrel knocked it down twice, it was trashed beyond redemption. I have several other feeders - squirrel busters and audubon feeders - and I also had the other Woodlink model (green one) which was great until trashed by a bear (not the feeder's fault!). This one is the worst feeder I have ever had. Don't get it, not worth the money. There are much better options!!!

Holding out with final judgement before rating it 5 stars.
This bird feeder has worked as advertised of keeping the squirrels and Starlings from ‘robbing’ the wild birds feed. It is constructed very well. I use the metal hanger piece (enclosed), but had to bend the ends some to keep the hanger from falling out.Only thing I have found is the birds I want to attract, have been very slow to accepting and coming to the feeder - they prefer several other types that I have, and I use the higher quality bird food in all of my feeders, including this one.I will make final judgement after a couple of months of trying it; willing to give a little more time.

Not as full proof as claimed.
Works as it should. But they finally got into it. They pushed the arms apart. Ez. Now can not even use it.

great product and works well
It does what they claim it will do. Keeps the seed dry during weather conditions.
