Under pressure
A 2020 horror movie, which stars Kristen Stewart.IMPORTANT: this is a French dvd. The writing on the box is all in French. But the writing on the disc is in English. It will work fine on British Dvd players. It certainly did on mine. The film is set in an underwater mining base. Which, as some quick pictorial exposition in the opening credits shows us, is very deep underwater indeed. The deeper you go, the more the water pressure, of course.Norah [Kristen Stewart] is having an ordinary day in the base. When suddenly things go badly wrong. She and those who survive, including Captain Lucien [Vincent Cassel] who commands the place, have to make a very dangerous journey in order to have a chance at surviving. Good job there's no such things as monsters under the sea as well, eh?.................This is only the second Kristen Stewart film I've ever seen. The first being 'Snow White and the Huntsman', which wasn't a role that would really have stretched any actress. I was quite impressed with her in here. She makes for a good lead. She's also pretty good acting wise, showing Norah as a professional who tries to remain such in the middle of terrible shock.Vincent Cassel also makes a good impression as Lucien, making him a calm leader, who is very capable as a result of being such. There's only a few other characters. You do get used to them as it goes along, although the two leads do grab the attention the most.It tries hard to put you in the middle of what it would be like to go through this. The opening does really grab as a result. There's a few scenes where it's hard to see what's going on. Also hard to hear what is being said. But I would imagine that is exactly how it would be in this situation, so it achieves the desired effect. The threat level does escalate in a decent manner. I did find myself hooked and getting used to these characters. Thus I was on tenterhooks wondering who would survive or not. It's only ninety five mins long, so it's a good pace and it doesn't waste any screen time. The ending is a good resolution to everything and it is one that will stay with you for a while afterwards. One where possibly portentous narration actually has the impact it's trying for, also.Keep watching at the very end until the credits roll. Spoilers.Although there's nothing extra during or after them.A good little film. I didn't manage to get to it at the cinema, so I'm glad I finally caught up with it. I imagine it would have been even more effective on the big screen in a dark cinema. So I would draw the curtains and put the light off when watching now, for added effect. There are no extras on the dvd.Languages and subtitle options:Languages: English. French. Castilian Spanish. German. Italian.Subtitles: English. French. Castilian Spanish. Dutch. German. Italian.

A bit disappointed
It's obvious money has been spent on this film as it looks impressive. The cast are equally good with Kristen Stewart in fine form taking the lead role. However, for me there's just something missing (though I'm not quite sure what!) that would rank it alongside such films as Alien and Abyss. One thing I can say is that despite the terrific action scenes, the necessary depth of tension just wasn't there for me. OK I'm a fan, but maybe if Ridley Scott, Jim Cameron or Steven Spielberg had been at the helm, I truly believe this could have become a classic. Maybe the relatively short running time of 91 minutes, doesn't help as the end feels rushed; it's also a huge disappointment and utterly pointless. Up until this bit, I would happily have given it 4 stars, but the ending just killed the film for me, so it lost another star. I won't be watching it again, which is a shame.
