Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest - Complete Animated BBC Series [DVD]

Quest for the Infinite
This is an animated Doctor Who story. Originally broadcast in 2007, as part of the tv show 'Totally Doctor Who.' Which showed it in three minute long instalments. This version has them all edited together into one single story, which runs for forty minutes [approx].It features the Tenth Doctor and Martha. Voiced by the original actors, David Tennant and Freema Agyeman. The story sees the two of them on a quest to find the location of a legendary long lost starship. The Infinite. It is said that the ship has the ability to grant whoever finds it their heart's desire. But with the evil spaceship captain Baltazar [voiced by Anthony Head] also looking for the Infinite, it's a race against time to find it first...This has conventional two dimensional animation, rather than anything done with computer graphics. The likeness of the two leads are spot on, though. And although the animation isn't sophisticated, it does use the medium well. Much like Doctor Who comic strips and audios down the year, it really does include things that even the tv show would struggle to replicate. The fact that it edits all the episodes into one does mean you will get expository material popping up every so often in the dialogue, but that's only a very mild irritation.Ultimately not an exceptional tale, but a more than capable one. And a decent enough time passer. It might on it's own be a three star release, but the dvd does have a reasonably good package of extras, which pushes it's rating up.Character profiles: short paragraphs about the characters, alongside a picture of them.Interviews: Five short interviews, none lasting more than a couple of minutes. One each for the four main actors. And one with the Director. All are pretty good chats.Animation tests. A minutes worth of these. Watch how their rendition of the Doctor gets more sophisticated as the tests go by.Photo gallery. A few stills from the story.Season three trailer. A trailer for the dvd of the third season of the show.Sarah Jane trailer. A trailer for the dvd of the pilot episode of the Sarah Jane adventures.Behind the scenes with the animators. A two minute long look at their work.Behind the scenes with the actors. Five minutes with a guest actor who comes in for one episode. This is quite fun.Dialogue recording episode one. Three minutes of film of the actors doing the recording for that episode.Dialogue recording for episode nine. Same as above, just a different part.Animatronics and deleted scenes. Nine minutes in total. Six of these being two of the episodes in storyboard version, but with complete dialogue. Then a few deleted scenes. Also in storyboard but with full dialogue. The dvd has English language subtitles. All these extras will teach budding actors some useful things about voiceover work.

Doctor Who - Infinite Quest
Have to say I loved the Infinite Quest on Totally Doctor Who and watched all 13 parts the full run witch was shown after. It's great that this animated episode is coming to DVD and I hope it will have lots of extras on the disc as well, although with other single Doctor who DVD's they don't, but maybe because it's animated that would be different.Anyway this story goes with the Doctor and Martha looking for a Starship called the Infinite witch has the power to give anyone their heart's desire, but a masked alien called Baltazar wants to find this ship so he can get his revenge on the Doctor, because he stopped him from destroying the Earth and rusted his ship to bits.A great story with some good one liners, this shows that Doctor Who can jump from the live screen to the animated one with no problem at all. Let hope more like this are done next year, maybe this time with the Doctor and Donna played by Catherine Tate who will be returning to the series next year.

The 10th Doctor Animated (part I)
The tenth Doctor appears in the screen in an unusual format: animated. With Martha Jones as the companion, they enter a formidable quest for the legendary and ultimate ship, called the Infinite.Originally shown in small episodes, the continuous adventure is very entertaining and funny, taking advantage of all the benefits of the animation, being the most remarcable the possibility of showing many planets and creatures with a constant budget. The main competitor of them is Balthazar, an evil character that plans to give an unthinkable dreadful use to that ship, the Infinite, which according to the legend has an extraordinary power. The Doctor and Martha must prevent Balthazar from achieving his objective. There is only one reason why I have rated it only with 3 stars: there is too much DVD for such a short story, even considering the extras. My advice to 2|entertain for the future is to release it together with DreamlandΒ Doctor Who - Dreamland [DVD ] which I will review in the next review.

For kids and big fans of the Tenth Doctor
This is an animated adventure, voiced over by David Tennant, the tenth Doctor. There are many fans of David Tennant out there who will get some extra stories through these quite short animated stories. Animation also allows things that cannot easily be contemplated in live action and will introduce many children to Doctor Who in a much gentler way that a full series. As the cartoon format is necessary compressed this is all action, without a pause for breath. The story line is topical and the characterisation is acceptable, although not as good as the real thing. It's a romp. It's good fun and kids will love it.

Great animated feature! We should have more!
Collecting all thirteen episodes of the 2007 cartoon from 2007's Totally Doctor Who, The Infinite Quest features the Doctor (David Tennant) & Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) going around from planet to planet to stop the mysterious Infinite from falling into the hands of enigmatic despot Baltazar (Anthony Head). It's a radical animation, but one with a great story, tremendous pace and highly enjoyable antics from start-to-finish. Complete with a great assortment of features and production/presentation values worthy of the TV series, Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest is a treasure no fan can afford to miss.
