Harry Potter (Three book set, includes Vols 1-3: Philosopher's Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban)

Good value for money.

On the face of it, this box set makes an excellent gift for children who are new to Harry Potter. For the most part that means those whose reading skills are just coming up to the right level - 8 or 9 year olds. It's all there but, really, the presentation is unnecessarily plain and uninteresting - from the outside they look like dull textbooks. Also, the books are squashed so tightly in to the utilitarian box that it took a major adult effort to get them out. The publisher (Bloomsbury) needs to think about the new generation coming in to Harry Potter for the first time and create a gift set which is properly designed to appeal to that age group, ideally with illustrations. Some investment in attractive presentation might create a gift set to be proud of rather than embarrassed by and would easily justify a higher price. J.K. Rowling should feel let down by her publisher on this one.

I bought this mini collection for my nephew's fifth birthday as, being a huge fan of the series myself, I wanted to involve him in the magical world as soon as possible. I was told that he requested the story at bedtime and wanted the second chapter immediately after the first one was finished. I would recommend this as a great Christmas present for new readers as it offers a more complex story that even without pictures is still child-accessible.The parcel arrived on time and the new covers are gorgeous and printed in lovely colours.

This set was bought as a 12th birthday "stocking filler". She read them in no time at all and became so obsessed with Harry Potter we have since bought the rest of the series and she is on the last one already! Not my cup of tea, but she has absolutely adored the series and is planning to read the whole lot again - think that is the first time she will have re-read anything!

I wanted to get my 7 year old brother started with Harry Potter, but I felt that the fourth book was a bit too much at this stage. However I wanted a nice set to give him for Christmas and these are lovely. The covers are beautiful and the pages are reasonably good quality. I hope these covers exist for the rest of the series, but sadly I don't think they do.

My 9 year old loves these. They have a lot of words per page, so not for those who maybe put off by that. The advantage is a more compact book. As it was for a child, would have preferred a more colourful or inspiring cover.

Daughter loves them even i like them! i had bought these for my daughter and she has finished them in a few weeks and she said she would really recommend so i read them to see what they were like and they were brilliant
