Ladybird Tales: Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Ideal book for little children, good story, well printed with pictures the way children enjoy stories.

Excellent classic ladybird book, keeping to the most popular version of the story. Illustrations are good. My two-year old grand-daughter loves the story. Some modern versions of this classic tale have become very silly. I down-loaded the kindle edition and really enjoy our time reading it together.

Lovely book ,colourful and easy to read

Did you know the little Bear was called Ryan ? Funny that the story sounds quite real with Daddy Bear and Mummy bear and baby Ryan bear. One day my grandson will read for himself that Daddy just said that. Great to hear a Dad using sound effects while reading. 4 year old was quite entranced.

I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old granchild who stays with us regularly. She thoroughly enjoys the vicarious naughty thrill of entering somebody else's home and eating their breakfast, breaking their stuff and even going to sleep in their beds. She has taken the book home with her for Mummy to read which is high praise. The wording is a little clumsy for this age group I felt. There are some missed opportunities for repetition and consistency of phraseology which this age group uses to build vocabulary and understanding. My memory of the version I am familiar with has both beds and chairs that are too hard, too soft and just right whereas this new version doesn't consistently use opposite adjectives or straight comparatives. We tried reading the story as written and then substituted our own telling which our granddaughter seemed to prefer. I am looking out for an old copy of the story to see if I can find a better text. Having said that, the illustrations are absolutely charming. A real treat. Mummy and baby bear have soft ginger hair - pretty much the exact shade of our granddaughter's hair and as she is the only red head in the family she was delighted to spot this "Same as like my hair" Daddy bear has very dark almost black fur so the illustrations are particularly apt in today's society where so many families have mixed ethnic heritage and do not all have the same colouring. In our own family we are very conscious that children shouldn't feel self conscious just because they have different colouring to their parents and so we were very pleased to have illustrations that help to reinforce positive acceptance of differences within families. I would rate this 3 for text and 5 for illustrations

Bought this Ladybird book for my 5 yr old greatgrandaughter to accompany the Goldilocks and 3 bears cushion that I made for her. I so love Ladybird books and have bought them for over 50 years.

Classic children’s book with lovely pictures

All our family love porridge, so we empathise with baby bear, and love Vera Southgate's version of this traditional tale. We do end it by saying we hope Goldilocks contacted the bears to apologise! Our two-year-old can almost recite it by heart!

Very nice story but small size

A Classic

A perfect book for a 3.5 year old. Even fits in my daughter hands. Page and picture quality both is good.

I wanted to share a piece of my childhood with my son but this book was disappointing to me. The story has been simplified too much ( I find myself making it up). I guess the illustrations are nice but I find them a bit "soft" and for a story that is trying to be so simple, some key stages aren't illustrated (mummy bear's comment always goes without representation: you get daddy bear complaining about his porridge then daddy bear and baby bear staring full of sorrow at baby bear's empty bowl. In between you say the mummy bear bit but there is nothing on the pictures to point at for a little one to understand and it's the same for every stage of the story). It's an ok version of a classic but disappointing as a ladybird book.
