Some third world companies do not certify due to the cost (for example I buy some products that are organically grown but not certified organic from companies I know well). However, to answer your question, currently NO varieties of genetically modified (GM) rice are grown commercially in the world (due to market opposition), although several have been approved for commercialization.  Gamma One is a product of Thailand, the world's largest exporter or rice. A little known and un-publicized Thai agricultural policy protects Thai rice from the risks of genetically-modified organisms. It is a public acknowledgement embedded in government policy that genetically-engineered crops are unnecessary and a risk to a sustainable future for farming. The Thai Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has laid out this policy in their “Rice Strategy,” a master plan committed to strengthening the nation’s rice production while promoting farmers’ livelihoods and consumer confidence.  Keeping Thai rice GMO-free means that Thailand maintains its global leadership in rice production. In August 2016, Thailand said again it will never grow Golden Rice. Many organizations around the world, including IRRI (International Rice Research Institute and the biggest pusher of GMOs), are using genetic modification as a research tool and in developing potential GM rice varieties. The most serious effort to commercialize golden rice is centered at the Philippines where it will show up probably in 2019, so don't buy from there or Bangladesh. Both countries have an advanced regulatory process for developing and disseminating bioengineered crops. Other countries that may follow suit include Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia, and Haiti so beware. Aside from cottonseed and canola oil, the top five most genetically modified crops today are sugar beets, corn, soy, zucchini, and papayas.

All Rice Bran Oil is "Cold Pressed" in Thailand which is where this oil originates.  It is very mild, can withstand high heat up to  445 degrees.  It's a light oil.  I'm on my 4th bottle of it.

Is it mechanically refined or chemically refined?

Their company says mechanically pressed. We like this oil because of the high smoke point and additionally it seems we need less oil to saute than other oils although can't point to a reason for this.
