The lid sits on the top - not tightly but it does not allow anything to escape. Once grinding is complete, a quick push or two on the top and the grind chute is clear. Much better than the antics that I was previously doing to clear it out. The bellow is all rubber. There is a channel on the bottom that fits on the grinder.
