The woven fabric that decorates the leash is all that secures the leash to the clasp. I trust my leash to provide 100% safety for my dog (who is not a huge puller, but still is 40 pounds). I will not risk my dogs safety on cheap construction. If you look at the photo, you can see the flimsy clasp and the slim attachment of this leash (red and black top) versus my flat leash (red bottom). US quarter provided for scale.
