Gyo (2-in-1 Deluxe Edition): The Death Stench Creeps (Junji Ito) : Ito, Junji: desertcart.co.uk: PC & Video Games Review: Classic Junji Ito, beautiful hardback - Classic Junji Ito horror, unlocking new fears I never knew I had. I really enjoyed this story, which was intriguing and creepy, it had some disturbing imagery, which is expected. The end did feel a bit rushed, it seemed like there was more to the story that never came. There is also an added short story at the end which is fantastic. Definitely recommend Review: Great read, good quality hardback cover too! - Great book and definitely worth buying but the ending just feels meh. It feels like Junji was meant to do a part 2 and never followed up on it. I'd say an 8/10 for sure.

Beautiful edition – perfect gift for horror fans
I bought this Tomie Complete Deluxe Edition by Junji Ito as a gift for my husband, and it was very much appreciated! The hardcover is beautifully designed, and the full collection in one volume makes it a fantastic keepsake for any fan of horror manga. Highly recommended if you're looking for a striking and memorable gift.

Fishy Business
Having been deeply impressed by Ito's Uzumaki, I came to Gyo with high hopes. While, however, Uzumaki is a brilliant premise worked through to great effect Gyo is an absolutely dreadful premise that the author clings to tenaciously to the point that it almost works. Almost. I won't spoil the plot - it begins with a disagreeable odour clinging to a scuba diver but very quickly becomes a sort of apocalyptic body horror - but it's the stuff of B-movies ... if a B-movie could be this appallingly horrific and visceral. You'll want to laugh with derision, possibly you'll be sickened and you'll probably want to put the book down in sheer frustration at the fanciful nature of the tale. Ito spares us little, but ultimately his narrative is insoluble, having an unsatisfactory conclusion and yet hardly providing any basis for a follow-up. As a physical book, this is produced to the same high standards as Uzumaki, with which it is uniform. The illustrations - black & white throughout - are of course of a high standard, well printed & translated. Of the two stories added as a bonus one is barely a story but the other ("The Enigma Of Amigara Fault") is possibly the best thing here. Overall, it's hard to deprive this manga of four stars since it is certainly a bold work of imagination, and uniquely odd. I didn't enjoy it much but I can respect the obsessive & unflinching nature of the author's work.

Amazing work!
This wasy first manga by Junji Ito and it did not disappoint! The book itself is very good quality with a really nice hard cover. It looks really nice with the other volumes as well!

Best Purchase Ever!
The story line is amazing; captures horror in a mesmerising way and you never really know what’s going to happen. Some stories become predictable but not Gyo. The short stories at the end are both frightening and mysterious leaving the reader to determine the background context, varying from each person... it’s amazing.

This product arrived earlier than expected. The packaging was great coming with two other books. The space within the box was filled up with air bags so they didn't move around. The book itself is a great read and Junji Ito is just an amazing Manga Artist and story teller.

Gyo (2-in-1 Deluxe Edition) is a visceral plunge into Junji Ito’s twisted imagination, where the grotesque meets the absurd in a tale of biomechanical horror. This hardcover edition collects the full story along with bonus material, including the chilling short “The Enigma of Amigara Fault,” which alone is worth the price of admission. Ito’s art is as detailed and disturbing as ever—his depiction of the walking fish invasion is equal parts ridiculous and terrifying. The pacing is relentless, and the escalation of horror feels like a fever dream that refuses to let up. Beneath the madness, there’s a commentary on pollution, war, and bodily autonomy, but it’s wrapped in such surreal terror that interpretation becomes part of the experience. The deluxe format is sturdy and well-printed, with crisp pages and a striking cover. If you're collecting Ito’s works, this edition is a must-have. Just be warned: once you open it, you may never look at the ocean—or your own body—the same way again.
