Excellent Resource for Homeschooler
I purchased this to help my son with his IGCSE course. I wish we'd been aware of it much sooner. We paid £350 for an English course and have been accessing the Anthology online. This book contains all the anthology texts, so it's great for not having to boot up the computer. It is very indepth and I feel we could have studied for the course using this book alone when weighed against the benefits of the course we purchased. However, as it's heavily geared toward the anthology section of the exam, other areas such as writing to explain, inform and persuade are not covered quite as much. It's still a very useful resource despite this, and I can see why homestudy courses might not be shouting from the rooftops about it!

Only book Edexcel recommend & the only book you need
There is not much available in the way of revision guides if you are taking English IGSCE and studying at home.Edexcel recommend this book and only this book and really it is all you need, as well as past papers that you can get online - (although hard to get the 2 articles you need for 66% of the exam) but you can see the definite pattern to these exams and practice them.I was really impressed with this book, and in fact with the Specification by Edexcel - Syllabus B is perfect for teenagers like my son who lives abroad and attended school not in English.Expensive but good.

A real success
If you are teaching this syllabus then how can you go wrong? The background reading, the questions for study are excellent. A student can practically teach themselves using this text. It is clearly set out and really helpful.

Good.
Highly recommend this product. This book is clear and concise. The cover is pretty much hard wearing and resistant. Good buy.

Dismal.
One of my many pleasures in life is the teaching of the 'international' version of the Edexcel IGCSE English language course. Actually, it's not a pleasure at all... since the exams are ludicrously dry and joyless (although there *is* the benefit of having no controlled assessment or speaking and listening coursework... very handy, in the rather fringe-y school where I work).Anyway, anyway... if you've made the decision to teach this rather wretched syllabus, and are looking for materials to support you... then you're almost certainly better off writing your own than trying to find any purpose at all for this. The anthology-related stuff is dire - no meaningful context or analysis at all, really - just tedious, repetitive analytical exercises that would numb the brain of even the most ardent self-studier, and/or provide a classroom teacher with *just* enough tedium to provoke a riot.Avoid.
