This might be small in size but the recipes are delicious
Hamlyn is one of those names that I trust when I see a cookbook. The very first recipe book I purchased in my teens was the Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook and I am still using it today! I love this little soup cookbook. It is fairly small in physical size but it contains 200 recipes - a decent amount for any cookbook. The book is split into six sections which include: - speedy soups - chilled soups - winter warmers - something special - healthy soups - around the world I like that there is one recipe to a page and that every soup recipe is accompanied by a very clear, full colour photograph which presents the soup so that it just calls to you to make it. Each recipe is straightforward and easy to follow. There is a clear list of ingredients which are measured in both metric and imperial. It tells you how many portions you can expect from the recipe and how long both the preparation and cooking time will take. The instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. There are so many delightful recipes in this book that it is hard to pick out particular favourites, but near the top has to be both the tomato and balsamic vinegar soup and the sweetcorn and celery soup. As well as the recipes there is also an informative introduction which explains soup terms such as consommé, broth, chowder etc. It also provides easy to follow stock recipes for beef, chicken, fish and vegetable stocks. The paper has a shiny coating which makes it easy to wipe if you get any splashes on it. Unfortunately if you accidentally spill oil or grease onto the page and don't remove it quickly enough it will leave an oily mark, but I think that is the case for most cookbooks. The only small criticism I have is that because the book is so small in size the font size is tiny, probably about 8 points. If you have good eyesight this is fine but I need glasses for reading so I am forever having to put my glasses on to read the next stage of the recipe and then take them off again to continue preparation or cooking. In conclusion if you enjoy making soups and you only buy one soup book then this one is definitely worth considering.

Nice little book
Very small print for the index pages , but clearly laid out. However, the book is well under A5 size, really small. I would prefer to pay more for a bigger version. The recipe font is a bit larger and with a good photo of the finished dish on the opposite page. The ingredients are laid out very clearly on the left column with the instructions on the right. I will scan and enlarge any recipes I use..my eyesight is good but I get irritated straining to read recipes…annd all the other things these days with stupidly small type on them.

Go Kindle!
Kindle Edition works brilliantly with my iPad. Not only does it enlarge the text to an easy readable size but it also has the search and shortcut facilities which make Kindle books so useful. A wide selection of recipes plus colour photos for each recipe. These together with the hints and tips, to my mind make it a steal at £2.99.

It is not especially for Soup Makers
It has lovely recipes but if like me you newly have a soup maker it doesn’t really deal with that. If making in a pan, very goof

Love this one!!
I love this cook book. I was impressed with great quality full color pictures of every dish!! I've made quite a few soups from this, and they were all delicious!! There are so many different recipes it'll take me a while to try all of them!! Perfect little gem for a long rainy winter in Oregon :) I'm thinking of getting different ones from the same author. It is worth every penny!!
